A question about acoustic cases

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Haven't been able to get an answer on this from epiphone by email, so trying my luck over here.

I have en EL-00, and I'm aware of the fact that the official case for this model is the EL-0CS.

However, I live in Europe, and it's out of stock all over the continent (really, I checked!). US vendors that have it won't ship to Europe or will do so for more than double the price of the case itself.

I did find a store in Madrid, that has a good reputation, and they shipped me a case that appears on their website as "Case for L-00".

This case looks nothing like the EL-0CS (no brown borders and handle, flat side, only the epiphone E on it).

I couldn't find a model number on the case anywhere, and it only had a little sticker on it saying 149-8, and another one saying "Made in Korea".

My first question would be whether an Epiphone case usually carries a reference to the model number on it somewhere or not.

I don't have my guitar here with me, and it'll take a while before I can do some fitting tests and see if it is indeed a case that suits the guitar, so I wanted to ask whether anyone recognizes the case model by the picture or weird model number I have mentioned (couldn't find any reference to such a model number online).

Any of you people over here using a case for the EL-00 which isn't the EL-0CS? Which one? Does it fit perfectly?

Thanks in advance!

the official case for this model is the EL-0CS.

This would be the "Epiphone" model number. Gibson/Epi does not build cases, they contract a case manufacturer to build them, so.....

it only had a little sticker on it saying 149-8, and another one saying "Made in Korea".

This would be the manufacturers part number. So Epi buys case #149-8 from a Korean manufacturer, and then calls it an EL-0CS ("Epiphone L-00 Case).

I do not know who the Korean supplier is for the Epi cases, but "Gibson" OEM cases are built by TKL out of Canada. Through one of their retailers you can buy any case they make for Gibson guitars, it just won't have the Gibson (or Epi) logo printed on it.

I would contact TKL by e-mail, get the model numbers of the cases they make for the Gibson equivalent of your Epi, and then you can search on-line, or local, for that specific model number case. Parts searches go much easier if you can ask for XXX brand model number YYY.
