Pegleg
Delivered Friday and, due to pre-existing commitments, only a few hours spent playing it. That being said, observations are that: 1. Fit/finish are superb, acoustic tone (to my ears) is all that I expected it to be... warm, woody and great projection. The Fishman Matrix Infinity, to my relief, does a good job given my pre-existing signal chain of guitar/Fishman Platinum Pro/fishman SoloAmp. I say "relief" because some of the youtube videos of the FMI sounded "brittle" to me. So, there's the good news, and there's a lot of it... but for my tastes, the play-ability is not where I'm satisfied. It plays great on open chords and capo'ed up the neck but un-capo'ed up the neck could be better. After applying the recommended tests of eyeballing; sighting down the neck, ruler test and, sighting with 1st and 12th fret depressed, it's pretty obvious (even to me) that a little "relief" needs to be taken out of the neck. About 2/64 best I can tell (I performed same tests on my J45 which plays "like butter" and used it as my guide). I'll take it a local luthier to confirm (or not)my assessment and, make the appropriate adjustment(s). Just thought I'd share, comments, advice always welcomed. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/ab254/pegleg1950/DSCN7661.jpg
EuroAussie
Well if the only issue is action adjustment then you got yourself a great guitar! Would love to play but chance of finding one in my neck of the woods is about as rare as finding a Collings. Enjoy!
duluthdan
Outstanding guitar. I will hazard a guess that all it will need to tweak that action down is an eigth, perhaps a quarter, turn to tigthen the truss rod. Not sure if saddle work is easily done, probably not. Mine is at the shop right now, awaiting the install of the Trance, can't wait to get it back.

junglejem
I hope this is just a simple set-up issue, and that you will ultimately be as happy with your JB as I am w/mine. I have had mine for a year or so now, and it remains my favorite acoustic guitar. A year down the road and I still have absolutely no desire for any other 6 string acoustic on the planet. Hands down, the most comfortable, playable, and best-sounding acoustic I've ever experienced. And Duluthdan...I suspect you are going to love the Trance Audio Amulet. I had one installed in a J-200 before I bought the JB. They are just awesome systems, difficult to compare to anything else on the market. Pegleg, let us know how this turns out once you've made your tweaks and have had some honeymoon time.
E-minor7
Something about this model makes it look like the guitar of guitars. The mother of steel strings from whom it all sprang. Haven't yet met any - can't happen too soon.

jdd707
Congrats Pegleg! The JB is a wonderful sounding guitar .... I've never hear anyone say they had a dud. I let one slip away at a decent price early this year .... ah unrequited love. Enjoy!

Pegleg
Appreciate the feedback folks and, I'll report back the final outcome. I'm confident it's a minor adjustment. In the meantime, I'm tuning down a half step and that has made a significant difference. I may continue the practice even after the truss rod adjustment! I think I like the tone even better! duluthdan
Mine is down a half step too. And I think if you listen with a guitar in your hands, alot of JB's stuff is down a half a step, on stuff he doen't use whacky tunings for. Gives it a bit of nice growl me thinks, if you dig in a bit.

merseybeat1963
You may consider taking the other guitar which is set up as you love it & ask this new one be set up the same. Not forgetting the slots in the nut as well(usually strings level out there when neck is straightened anyway)but it sometimes escapes the attention of set up guy. It takes some time for it to age as top raises usually & all settles in where it will need a touch up. Congrats

Pegleg
Perfection achieved... received the truss rod tool from the dealer on Wednesday, it took 3 intervals of 1/4 turns over a day and half but the guitar plays "like butter" now! It plays differently than the J45, but due to the neck being wider and shorter, no issue with the action. I'm relieved, buying a guitar, especially one as expensive as a JB "sight unseen" is a huge leap of faith.... I got lucky... again... who's next?
