hellion102792
Dates can be found here: The Who announce North American tour performing Quadrophenia plus Who classics Tickets on sale July 27th. Good summer so far for live rock operas, first The Wall comes back to the US and now this? I mean yeah, Roger's voice is shot now but I think this one looks worth seeing. And Jon Lord left us this week, who knows how long Pete and Roger will be around for? Could be one of the last chances to see them considering the states of Roger's voice and Pete's hearing. And hell yeah that the final show is right here in Providence .
Windmills Optional
Cool! I didn't get to see Quadrophenia on the first go round in the '70s (wound up seeing the Who for the first time in '75 on the "By Numbers" tour) but I did see them tour Quadrophenia in '96. I'm pleased to see a Chicago show this time out. I'm pretty sure I'll be there. On a related note, we were in London late last year and we were lucky enough to see a small exhibit dedicated to the making of Quadrophenia. Small show, but it had some cool stuff like Townshend's journals from the period, studio logs, etc.
EVOL!
Anyone know if Zak Starkey will be behind the kit again? Keith Moon was one of a kind, but Starkey does a killer job. He was meant for this gig.
daveinspain
That's weird you'd think the Who performing the Rock Opera Tommy would be a better sell...

He was meant for this gig. The website says Zak Starkey will be doing the drumming. From the announcement: Founding members ROGER DALTREY and PETE TOWNSHEND will be joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals). jannusguy2
IMHO, these guys should hang it up. They are, sadly, pale imitations of their former selves. The previous post about Roger's voice being shot says it all for me. If playing keeps them young they could do it once a week in the local pub. This smacks of a cash grab, nothing more. Kimbabig
That's weird you'd think the Who performing the Rock Opera Tommy would be a better sell... Maybe, but I'm glad because I always liked Quadrophenia a little more than Tommy, not to say Tommy isn't an amazing album.

Sadly this is true about a lot of nostalgia acts now; have you heard the Beach Boys lately? Terrible! And they're going to tour like that?? My dad was all set to get tickets to see them until he saw them on Leno last month. I have a bootleg of Roger's Tommy tour last year and he didn't sound too terrible. Yesterday I read that he underwent some sort of laser surgery on his larynx that has restored his voice to a degree so it'll be interesting to see how he handles this tour. I only want to see it because The Who are one of my all-time favorites and it would be cool to see them live before it's too late. Hopefully it won't be too pricey, already spent $180 this summer on a Roger Waters ticket.. It would be amazing to see their actual former selves. My uncle saw them here in Providence back in the '70s WITH Keith Moon, now THAT would be something to see. Lucky b*stard...
