Phillbis Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I just bought a 2004 faded Flying V. Great guitar. The seller told me the fretboard was rosewood. The guitar actually looks like it has an ebony fretboard. Was this standard? It has the dot inlays.
iSoto Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Faded Flying Vs after 2003 have Rosewood fretboards with dot inlays. From what I know, only the ones with the Gothic Moon inlays had Ebony fretboards. I'm not sure but I think that Rosewood can be darker sometimes, or they just finished the fretboard with Black Stain (the same product used to give Ebony fretboards that black look, as Ebony is not black). If you want more info tell me.
Phillbis Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 This looks like ebony to me. You can't see any grain and it is black. I have the dot inlays. The guitar's serial number indicates that it's a 2004.
Morten M Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 My Faded is also from '04 and the fret board looks like Ebony. So my reasoning is that this must be high quality rosewood, he he.
guardcats3 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 it's just a darker rosewood, mine's the same way.
Phillbis Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks guys. It's definitley the smoothest and darkest rosewood I've ever seen. I'll just enjoy it and not worry about what it is.
