EuroAussie
Do you have to be posh to play one ..... ? Made me think it would be a bit weird if a guy who doesnt know too much about acoustics asked, so what guitar you play, and you say ..... well, its Bourgeois. He'd probably think your a bit full of yourself, wouldnt he ? Anyway, thats my philosophical thought for this Sunday.

Rambler
The Bourgeois Blues? Kidding aside, DB is one of the good guys in the world of independent guitar building. With Eric Schoernberg, he helped revive the Martin OM (+1) then went on the develop his on line, down east in Lewiston Maine. He also has some interesting theories on tone-woods and bracing (http://www.pantheonguitars.com/). Ricky Skaggs has a DB sig model, so you dont have to worry about 'gettin above our raisin' if you play one! I've played a few of his boxes (an OM, a JOMC, and a D). All very nice , impeccably made, but walked away with both my socks on.
junglejem
I owned a Bourgeois Vintage D for a while. Beautiful adirondack top, gorgeous rosewood back & sides, immaculate fit & finish, great sounding adi/rosewood dreadnaught. Everything about it spoke "class." And for some reason, I just never bonded with it. Can't really put a finger on it, it just wasn't love. Kept it for about 2 months and then swapped it for a Collings. Swapped that for a J-200. And finally, my beloved Jackson Browne.
Tarrr
That would be boutique bourgeois. The master luthiers like Dana, Bill Collings, Richard Hoover, etc are not in the volume guitar business... no reason to compare them to Martin, Gibson, Taylor. There prices are high due to the labor they love.
merseybeat1963
Depends how you feel..and one shouldn't feel like that at all when it comes to an instrument. The truely posh would be having someone to play for them : )
zombywoof
Sorry but to me it makes a lot more sense at the end of the day to put my hard earned scratch into a guitar built by Dana, Walker, Kopp, Collings, or John How than to invest it in vine inlays and eye catching bling. I would think though it just might be more envy than anything else that would cause us dimiss some absolute beginner with a guitar you can't afford as being "posh." Any of us who have taught have found ourselves scratching our head when some 12 year old walks in with a Tom Murphy reliced Les Paul or something when you are sitting there with your single pickup Harmony Stratotone. It is hard not to think why the heck ain't I that lucky.

At this age Im past it, but when I play that little Lowden I play much better & take chances all over the thing.I get obsessed on it almost to madness. The other acoustics I have are good for this or that but If I had to trade 5 guitars to get one that has that effect its worth it.

Now, if one had a Froggy Bottom guitar, think about that: "What guitar do you play? " "I play a Froggy Bottom" "Uh-- what did you say?"

I generally don't mention I have a Bourgeois although not out of fear people will think I'm full of myself (I'm usually told I'm full of something though - just can't remember what it is they always say). The reason is that unless the person I'm talking to really knows acoustics they probably haven't heard of Bourgeois. By the way its a beautiful Slope D and it sounds and plays great. Doesn't sound at all like the Gibson it resembles. I feel very fortuneate to own it as I do all my guitars. GAS is truly a disease! It has its place in the arsenal but I play my D41 or Sparrow most. JuanCarlosVejar
I really like the Dana B guitars ... man there was one beauty on youtube I heard it had Bearclaw spruce top . there is a store that only stocks boutique guitars and says that most gibson don't sound all that ggreat to them but this one really got them : they mostly stock stuff like Collings and Bourgeois but if I had to choose a small shop guitar it would be a Santa Cruz =D JC

They are built so light & sound is so good. Thank goodness they are not the most astronomically priced. It turns out the H&D I bought is not modeled after a Martin after all , but one of these & J45..the snow flake inlays threw me off. The interview I read with Bourgeois he says Adirondack/Red spruce may well be the perfect sound board for the acoustic guitar.

Of course, it helps that they have a superb recording environment and equipment, not to mention a guy who knows how to get a lot of of a guitar.
