drathbun
I've just downgraded my bass by selling my 2005 Rickenbacker 4003 FG bass and purchasing a Squier Vintage Modified Jass Bass to replace it. There are a few reasons for doing this. First, I've moved from a very large house (five bedrooms, three baths) where I had a large office/studio (17'x12') to a smaller house (three bedrooms, 1.5 baths) where my "studio" is one of the bedrooms (11'x 9'). So in the spirit of downsizing, I've been shedding a lot of equipment. Secondly, and this is probably the main reason, I just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary and my wife and I were out shopping and she wanted to stop by a jewelry shop "for fun". I thought she was looking for a ring for herself, but she wanted to get me a diamond ring. I found one that was so unique I had to have it. Of course, I have to find a way to fund this expense since it was not part of our anniversary plans. So I looked at my guitar collection and decided that although the Rick bass is a beauty, I'm not a bass player and only use it to record bass lines now and then. So there is a lot of money tied up in that instrument. So I put it on Kijiji and it sold within a week for a bit more than I paid for it seven years ago. The bass was flawless. I found a shop that had a Squier Vintage Modifed '70's style Jazz Bass in stock and picked it up for $300. So I've been able to retain a bass for recording purposes and fund the surprise present from my wife! I haven't had a lot of time to play the new bass but it sound terrific and feels great. I have ordered chrome flats for it and will install them and do a setup when I return from Vancouver next week. In the meantime, here are some photos of the bass... I love the look! Maple body and neck with black block inlays with Seymor Duncan designed jazz pickups.
