merseybeat1963
I was curious after seeing a video of Eric Johnson playing a Prototype Paul Reed Smith Acoustic Guitar which sounded good compared to a Martin he just put down. My initial impression was..how can this Paul Reed Smith have the nerve to charge $5K+ for a budget and $9K+ for an ornate acoustic without having developed any reputation for acoustic guitar making. It's like a con. I mean right away he slaps on prices like that when one can buy a Lowden..Huss & Dalton..Bill Moll...Gibson L5..or other handmade acoustic for that price. So I came across two..tried them and they really sucked. One was so heavy it would very well be suited to Medeveal warfare as a dual instrument /bludgening tool. The Gibson John Lennon J160 near it sounded much nicer. The nice woods on those PRS were thoroughly wasted.

retrorod
I like your style also. However, Paul Reed Smith should not be blamed.....After all ...he is off 'the hook'! As the founder and CEO of a largely successfull business,...... President Obama has 'proclaimed' that "HE did'nt DO that"! ...."somebody ELSE did that"! Rod, you feel perpetually obliged to bring your politics into a guitar forum. If you want to talk politics, go to a politics forum. If you want to talk guitars, stay here. And a very nice guitar it is. Still looking for one of these. Almost bought a brand new one this week, but I'm saving myself for the one I love....like this one. Your statement was absent any truth. It was, however, typical of your "sense of humor". In other words, predictably unfunny, juvenile and based in ignorance and hatred for our President. Hope that's not too rude for ya!

kidblast
I'm all for the "no politics on the forum" policy! as for PRS, and acoustics, I've been wondering about those, and thinking the same, (the price is just off the charts given there's no reputation to base these on) BTW - I've never owned a PRS electric, and I never intend to. I have played more than a few however, fwiw they've just never "done it" for me. Thanks for the quick review on the acoustics.
zombywoof
There seems to be a a growing fondness in this forum for flaming booteek guitars lately. How about a return to the good old days and just bash Taylors. That is far more in comfort zone.

JuanCarlosVejar
the PRS designs for the elecrics look aweful ... the acoustics looks just as nasty (mostly the cutaway models) : JC note : the guitar in the video above has no soul to my ears ... it sounds bad when strummed to me also

No real character and a pronounced treble bias without being particularly articulate. For $7K+ street price, I'd want a lot more. To each his own. merseybeat1963
Takamine tone at L5 prices. I dont know if things have changed but Ive had experience with two PRS electrics and they both sounded Twerpy. I changed pickups to the best PAF handwounds around (back then) and the sound was the same. Even though they look great & are made nicely..or I think they may be.. a good Gibson SG blows that guitar away..not to mention the great Gibson Les Paul. Concerning Politics..all I can say is before giving an allegence to anyone one or another, watch the film (You Tube) "The Money Masters".. Its like watching the real life version of "The Omen" : ) Oh man..the word Boutique makes me cringe. My image of those handmade guitars is not the Coach store or YSL on Madison Aveune selling purses that are actually made in China. Its a dude with a leather apron, using handplanes, curles of wood all over the floor & putting serious work, care & time into it. Something genuine. For $7K+ street price, I'd want a lot more. To each his own. I agree -- I thought it sounded fine (if nondescript) when flatpicked, but the strumming sounded too trebly and the fingerpicking part sounded totally muddy to me. Not sure what is supposed to make that worth the $$$. As our British friends would put it (and correct me if I'm wrong!), that guitar sounds like pants.
