Time to get serious

So I've finally decided to make the leap and get a Les Paul. I've got a lot of time for research since I plan on buying it in summer of next year, but it's never to late to start looking around. What I'm wondering is if it is possible to order a color that usually comes with a certain model of an LP on a different model. Do they allow you to get colors from other les paul models from places like Musicians Friend or would I have to have a professional custom paint mine for the color I want(if even possible)?

Well I wasn't considering it a custom color because the LP's on the site come with this color, just not on this model. I'm starting to think the only way to get this guitar in this color is by getting one of the 22 guitar shops in the country to order 25 copies of a $5,000 guitar, anyone know the odds of that happening =P?

Should have bought your giutar a couple of years ago man... back when the custom shop still made custom orders...

Now if you want that it will have to be an aftermarket thing. Buy the one that is cheaper but meets your needs (neck profile, pickups and such) and have it refinished... a lot of shops will do that work. I wouldn't do that though... I don't feel confortable buying an expensive guitar to have it refinished just adter buying her.

You can of course, buy a vintage mahogany... they come with almost no finish and you can have her finished at any shop of your choice. That or a BFG are good options. The pickup config of the BFG being more interesting, specially if you finish that thing, put body and neck binding and fretboard inlays. You can change the smoked/black hardware for chrome and have it re wired as a normal gibson.

I am thinking about doing just that to a BFG but the binding and inlays are too much for me... I gear I will damage the guitar.

Look around and see if you find something you like... what is the finish you want and on what model? If you want gibson to make that one directly, you can either wait for them to have that as a special ed or GOW or GOM, which is unlikely; or order 25 of those things... you can then sell them... but then you will not be the only one with that finish on that model.

While we are at that... it would be cheaper to just find a model that comes with that finish and change the pickups with those of the model you want (but cant find in that finish). A lot more easy and cheaper.

Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Gibson's a funny company in the sense that they don't advertise every colour they make.

Reason being is they always release these limited runs of different coloured guitars.

My silverburst is a prime example of this. You won't find it on their website, yet it exists.

So, who knows...the colour you're after may be out there.

...and yes, Gibson will make the exact colour you want, but you'll pay a premium.

Go to any Gibson dealer and ask them what a custom order will cost you.

Here's actually the details on what I want. This is the model I wanted(http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Shop-1957-Les-Paul-Custom-3-Pickup-with-Bigsby-VOS-Electric-Guitar-?sku=517983) and the color I'm looking for is this wine red(http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Les-Paul-Custom-Electric-Guitar?sku=517110). I'm a big fan of the wine red color and the triple pickup and bigsby tailpiece kinda drove me to this model. Think it's possible to get this in this color as the original finish?
