myspace.com/jessenoah Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 yesturday i bought my brother an ampeg 8x10 from 1972 sounds just like geddy lee
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 sweet... so does he at least have a decent bass to play it through? What are the specs on that amp anyway? (watts, controls, cost, etc) My bassist desperately needs a new amp so I'm trying to search around... (picture not loading on my computer at the moment)
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 he is spoiled a couple american basses, he prefers this jazz bass right here im pretty sure if you want to buy an ampeg, in 1991 they moved their operations to veitnam, so try and find one made before 91 right now he is searching for a head, let me know how your search goes
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 yea, i traded my 900 for it, and he said hed help me pay for a jtm 45, so its cool
Murph Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Cool cab. I played a lot of bass in my past, my last rig (which I still have) is a Carvin R1000 with the 4;10t cab. It'll shake your World. I don't know what it is about 10's and bass, but it's real. Best to ya. Murph.
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 imo, 15s are too muddy 10s are articulate, and with my marshalls and his (soon to be plural) ampeg, that is a visual that has been cool for 40 years
Ian Martin Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Nice! What head is he looking at? My bass players rig is a solid state SVT-400 through a matched 8x10. Sounds pretty killer...I wish I played bass enough to justify a full rig! He needs to get another one though...I have a hard time hearing him...
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 he is looking @ an old vbt series(?) with a blown power tranny lmfao, 100 watts of marshall, V 3k watts of ampeg, sounds like a better fight then rocky 4 i have a hard time getting my fingers to handel the bigger strings that a bass has, but i can play thoose stupid little country western and southern rock bass lines like noone's bussness
Ian Martin Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I seriously have to stand in front of his amp like the whole time in order to hear him! Unfortunately, I think I was born to be a bass player...I feel I'm much better suited for it and I am always playing crazy fills (which automatically makes you better than 90% of bass players already). It feels more natural and a better outlet for my creativity...but I keep shunning that notion...I wanna be a guitar player mommy!!!
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Thanks for the info, Jesse... a good amp we're looking at right now is a Line6 something-or-other.... costs about $550 and is 300W. I figure it should work just fine.
myspace.com/jessenoah Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 yea, but do you really want to be seen onstage standing in front of a line 6?!?!?!?! might as well buy a used ampeg something or other, they go for about 5-600 used @ least where i live
guitar_randy Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 yesturday i bought my brother an ampeg 8x10 from 1972 sounds just like geddy lee ampeg makes some kicka** amps
rybass Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Unfortunately' date=' I think I was born to be a bass player...I feel I'm much better suited for it and I am always playing crazy fills (which automatically makes you better than 90% of bass players already). [/quote'] HA! :P/ No more guitar players masquerading as bassists! Stick with the six strings and crazy fills you were meant for. Leave rhythm, timing and low end to the four string players! jk Ian, give it a go in a live situation with at least a 6x10 behind you. Mucho power! Jesse, nice cab. They sound better than the reissues as long as the speakers are good. Good choice.
RichCI Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 yea' date=' i traded my 900 for it, and he said hed help me pay for a jtm 45, so its cool[/quote']That was very nice of you! You're still thinking about the JTM45, huh? What style of music do you play? I was under the impression that you're more into hard rock like GNR, Zep and the like. I mentioned this in a thread you made a week or so ago but, to say it again, the JTM45 has a tube rectifier and those don't react very fast when playing with crunchier tones; the result is that lower notes tend to sound mushy. Marshall started using solid state rectifiers to meet the needs of players who were after a more aggressive tone so that's why they stopped using tube rectifiers. Tube rectifiers are GREAT for clean and moderately overdriven tones but real crap once you start heading towards the area of ZZ Top.
Ian Martin Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 jk Ian' date=' give it a go in a live situation with at least a 6x10 behind you. Mucho power! [/quote'] Yeah...I have...and the problem is, I love playing bass and I feel really comfortable...a little too much! However, my wife keeps telling me we have invested too much in guitar equipment to change instruments. SO, the guitar world is stuck with me trying to figure out what those two extra strings do...for now...

Good deal, the fewer the bassists out the more gigs fo me. =D>/ The darkside will wait.
