What's Your Favorite Gibson Guitar

Trust me on this Pipster.....

.....it was a brute to play.

Oh, I know that, N!k.

I wouldn't choose it because of it's playability. I'd choose it for it's part in the history of music.

Interestingly PG himself said it was a b!tch to play. Even more interesting, perhaps, is his assertion that HIS fave LP of all time was Clapton's famous 'Beano'.

For the ultimate in 'known to me' Les Paul tone and playability I'd take my R0 over anything else I've ever played - but I'm sure y'all know that by now...lol!.

ES-330

  1. P90 pickups
  2. Great, fast neck
  3. light weight
  4. and can be played with or without an amp

IMHO one of the most under-appreciated guitars. The Beatles played Casinos, and made them famous, but for some reason the 330, which is a better guitar, didn't get the promotion the Casino did.

Hi Hayden 4,your LPs are just something else, the Flood Tribute is incredibley beautiful and I love the grain in the "oxblood?" one.California Man that ES 175 just has killer looks, that's another model I hope to add to my flock some day.I see ES 175s with PAFs advertised in Vintage Guitar magazine for a very reasonable $12,000+.I say that it's a reasonable price because PAF equipped late 50s LPs are hitting the $100,000+ range and as much as $200,000 for a Gold Top.

Contrary to popular myth Les Pauls were not dead when AFD came out. Lot's of guys played them.

But they were a lot cheaper! Used ones especially as there were quite a few people ditching them for pointy headstock super strat types. I wish I had bought as many used LPs as possible back then. #-o

I would have stayed on with LPs! I like super strats too, though. Not really into the flashy BC Rich/Jackson/Ibanez types, but more regular Strat/Charvel with a humbucker and a Floyd. I like the way normal Strats feel.

But, I would have gone the Neal Schon/Steve Clark way and played LPs with a vibrato system!

Is that Robbo playing Greeny's Paul?

Interesting.

Thanks for posting.

P.

No, that's Gary! This was from the 1978 tour they did after Robbo was sacked (And with a fill-in for Brian Downey, whom couldn't make it), prior to recording the Black Rose album, which featured Gary.

I think Scott Gorham's Paul is also noteworthy! So unique looking!

Well Death Magentic is definitely Thrash Metal...hopefully the album they are working on is as good.

I haven't listened to it much. Maybe I'll give it a whirl!

Justice was a great peak. The Black Album, and what followed I don't care for.

I always thought they lost something after Cliff died.

Thanks for the clarification!

I wonder if Gary used Brian's hairdresser?! LOL!

Lizzy's membership certainly did a lot for the popularity of the LP in Scotland when I was a nipper.

Na! I'm almost certain Robbo did stuff to his hair back in the day. I think Gary had very thick, naturally puffy hair (Like me!), and it was huge when grown out. If you look at Robbo with Motorhead, his hair was normal.

Robbo's from Scotland! I think it's amazing that Lizzy had different backgrounds for each of it's members.
