RStabe Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Is this common. Is it anything to worry about? What is an easy quick fix; It doesnt have to look perfect but Ide like to get rid of the rough feel and maybe keep it from getting worse. http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/2363/crackxu7.jpg' alt='crackxu7.jpg'> [/img]
littlekenny Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 wow, that looks bad. It might just be the finish reacting with something but just to be sure, I'd have a luthier or something check it out.
Ian Martin Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Does it go through to the wood, or is it just the finish? There are certainly different options available to you in either case and a good luthier should be able to help you out. I've seen cracks like that through the wood and they're never that big of deal and quite easy to fix. How did this happen?
RStabe Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 I was hesitant to flex the headstock, but once I did it revealed a long crack running cross ways on the other side. It happened in shipping. It was packed in 100 yards of bubble wrap but the box was flimsy and when ups heaved it off the truck with the pitch fork it musta cracked. I doubt ups will cover it but ya never know. The seller is an A1 guy and said he would make sure I got my cash back no matter what. To bad, I got a killer deal on it too. Oh well.
Dynadude Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 That's screwed up man. UPS sucks. I don't see how they stay in business with all the damages they have to eat. Have you contacted them yet? It's actually the shipper's problem, as they are liable for damages in transit, but UPS may balk at paying if you didn't catch this right away. ALWAYS check for damage BEFORE the UPS person leaves. That way they can't claim it was done after you received the item. Edit ~ Back to your question. No, that is not a common break. That guitar took one heck of a shock, and unless that is a bolt on neck, you can expect to pay out the nose for a replacement. I would not accept a repair for that kind of damage, unless the guitar is not replacable.
