Favorite Analog Delay

I'll be searching for an analog delay pedal this weekend. Anyone have a favorite they can't live without? I haven't tried the MXR delay in years, but that will be the one I try first at the shop. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration and appreciated. =P~

I used an Arion stereo delay for decades. I passed it down to the daughter's kids when I got the Boss DD-6. I recently picked up the Boss DD-7 which has an excellent analog feature. In fact, I find I use it more than anything else on the pedal....

Hope this helps!

I did a bit of looking around before I settled on an Analogman AR20DL (Price: $145).

What I wanted was an analog delay that didn't change my original tone or volume when it was switched on and off (when on, guitar should still sound the same in the dry signal). I wasn't willing to pay a ton of money for one either (see: Diamond Memory Lane $600, T-Rex Replica $400 and Moog Moogerfooger MF-104Z $700). Basically, I wanted a delay that keeps my tone intact while producing a natural sounding degeneration of the repeats as they go on and then gets out of the way when I don't want it. The Analogman delay does all that and doesn't stuff a lot of features that I'd never use in it and is priced very nicely.

It does up to just 300ms of delay, which I find more than adequate, but if you're into really long, Pink Floyd type stuff, you might want to consider the upgrade they offer which doubles the delay time (that would bring the pedal up to $195).

There's a catch with these pedal though - You have to keep checking back to see when they have stock available as they get them in in batches which tend to sell out very quickly.

Another option you might consider is that Analogman does some mods to Boss digital delay pedals to make them more analog sounding.

I used a 70's vintage MXR Analog Delay for years, great sounding pedal, it would do some really wild sound effects. Retired it in favor of a DOD and a Boss digital unit, but neither of them had that SOUL.

I don't use any pedals anymore, and in fact the MXR is for sale.

I also have a bunch of other "classic" stomp boxes looking for new homes.

I'm a huge pedal nut, i've tried most of the pedals out there.

Now that I'm done bragging...

I own a Moogerfooger delay which has its many thousands of uses, and I love it, but it's not for everyone, and its $700.

I just recently bought a Line6 ToneCore Echo park. I nearly soiled my pants when I heard the delays this thing could do. You have the option for digital, tape, or analog, and can do all kinds of neat stuff with it, and right now they are $109 at MF... Great deal, and Great sound - really, no BS...

I never personally liked the BOSS units, too sterile.

If you want real hardcore analog, the Analogman units are nice, but as mentioned, hard to get. They are similar to an EH Memory Man, just more reasonably priced.

The new MXR carbon copy is a great pedal too... most other new analog delays are overpriced, or suck the life out of your tone. You will need to play the specific vintage ones to hear their soul, and they are expensive usually.

Good Luck!

One notable difference between the Analogman and EH pedals - the Analogman delay isn't noisy as hell. I have an old Deluxe Memory Man and I have fuzz pedals that make less noise than that thing.

Thanks to you all for the input. I'll give your suggested delay pedals a go and decide which suits my needs. So far I'm curios about the Analogman (probably because it's not so easy to get, according to RichCI.) Usually the good stuff sells first,. 300-330ms will be just fine for the warmth I'm looking for. If I find a good enough variety at my local shops, I'll try all your suggestions. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
