Thundergod Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I made these things last weekend but didnt get the time to upload them till now... -A custom case for a Jackson RR3 guitar... ("crimson swril" finish... and so is the case). -A custom pedalboard with case. Hope you guys enjoy them pics and please feel free to post any ideas on how to improve the designs.
deepblue Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 WOW! Very professional job. In fact I like that wedge design. I hope others dont rip off your idea. It must be nice to be handy and have a knack for craftsmanship. Either you got it...or ya dont! I dont. Nice job Thundergod.
Dynadude Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Amazing designs, and really clean work. I'm impressed. I would add one caution here though. I never trust any type of rubber or foam when it comes to direct, extended contact with guitar finishes. I would consider covering the inside with cloth. I've seen finishes discolor from just sitting on a guitar stand that has rubber covering the supports. It's not a pretty sight. I would also add extra support padding anywhere that the guitar might take a bump on the inside, like at each end, and at the sides in the body area. You may have already done that. It's just not apparent in the pics. I've built many cases myself over the years, but they were strictly utilitarian. (ugly) Yours are really nice looking. Bravo.
RichCI Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 VERY nice! I wish I could make stuff like that but I'm completely incompetent when it comes to working with wood.
Riffster Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Nice work man, I can't believe you did it on a weekend. That's fast on my book... I am building an amp head cabinet and I have been taking my sweet time..
Thundergod Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks guys... (insert crying smily here). Thanks for the ideas too! My better half told me the same thing about foam... (as Dynadude commented). So I'm researching and will come with something soon... Stiffhand, what kind of cab are you building? I have 3 cabs I am building, have them for 2 months now!!! and they are in the bare wood, haven't had time to do anything to them yet... (I am also still figuring out what color they are going to be). Sometimes I wish life wasn't so time consuming, so we could take our time to do the important stuff hehehehe
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Thunder... STOP GIVING ME GAS!!!! I haven't yet paid off my LP and I already want 7 more guitars...
littlekenny Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 nice thunder, did you paint the guitar case or did you find fabric already like that?
Thundergod Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 That is a material just like the ones you can find in amps (the tolex/covering thing on the amp, don't know how it's called). I have lots of colors and mixes of colors as I make cabs and have to have lots of colors at hand just in case... this specific one I had not used before... I got it thinking some goth players would like cabs in that finish (red with little black spots or marks...) but no, they all want worn brown cabs...
Mark Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Awesome. I just bought a 335 with a Gibson Custom case and your cases look much better. MIne looks very cheap yours look custom Gibson are you listening????
Riffster Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Stiffhand' date=' what kind of cab are you building? (I am also still figuring out what color they are going to be).[/quote'] I am making a head out of a Fender Champ 600 I bought on a deal I could not pass up. The amp is a one-knober but sounds very good for bedroom use, I like the way the 6V6gt tube breaks up. I installed the output transformer from my Valve Junior Head version 2 on it since the primary impedance is compatible, now the amp has outputs for 4,8 and 16 ohms. I already have a speaker cab for this head, it is a Weber Blue Dog 12". The original 6"Champ speaker was too limiting. The original Champ 600 empty cab will go on eBay soon. Here are some pics, minor details to be worked out and then comes the tweed covering.
surfpup Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Man, you guys paid attention is shop class for sure! Very nice work.
Thundergod Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Here are some pics' date=' minor details to be worked out and then comes the tweed covering. [/quote'] Looking good man! Congrats! Did you happen to see those fender jazzmaster little heads? They were finished like guitars: painted instead of having tolex/tweed on top ( I bring this because you might want to do something like that ). Tweed sounds great though... I'll be waiting for some pics man! Good luck with that project.
retrosurfer1959 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Nice stuff guys looks really nice. I just got some great that is too small for guitar bodies so I'm thinking about a small custom amp head in oil finished Koa similar to your design.
ChanMan Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 VERY nice! I wish I could make stuff like that but I'm completely incompetent when it comes to working with wood. +1 on VERY nice! +10 on incompetent wood working

I'll be waiting for some pics man! Good luck with that project. I've seen those jazz heads. The speaker cab I have is already covered in real tweed so I bought some authentic Fender tweed to match the head and special tolex glue. I will also shellac the head and cab when I am done, I am going to give it that vintage orange color... I will pot pics when I am done.
Tim Plains Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Cool, Thunder. I think Megadeth when I see that guitar!
brundaddy Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 An idea on improving the design of the guitar case: make the foam snug & form-fitting to the concave space in the body ... maybe give this triangular space a hollow spot w/a hatch so there's a 2nd compartment.

I'd love to see Thundergod build a guitar too.
Thundergod Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 ...I'm working on that... (I refinished one and upgraded everything but the wood a while ago though... (turned out it wasnt even wood... cheapo epi))
Homz Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I have lots of great gear ideas, but I lack the patients, skills, and tools to actually implement them. Plus (or minus, depending on your perspective) I'm lazy. Very lazy! Just ask my father in-law. Good work T.
Old Deadhead Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Nice work TG. What kind of wood did you use?
