zachd33 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I need some opinions to what kind of strings everyone thinks sound best on Les Pauls. I really liked the set the came on it originally, and I usually use .009s. Any info will be great. Thanks.
Out_Of_Control Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I use Gibson Vintage Reissue, Pure Nickel, 9's and 10's. I like the VR's because they are vacuum packed and have a long shelf life. I use 9's on some guitars and 10's when I want a stronger punch. eBay usually has deals where you can get 10 sets for $50.
Les Paul Fanatic Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Make sure you get nickel wrapped, as steel will wear down your frets faster unless you can pay to have fret jobs done on a regular basis.
RichCI Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 WebStrings. The sound good, they feel good, and they're almost half the price of everything else. I used GHS for years until I found WebStrings and I'll never pay $4 to $5 per set for strings again.
RichCI Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Make sure you get nickel wrapped' date=' as steel will wear down your frets faster unless you can pay to have fret jobs done on a regular basis.[/quote']There is truth to that but I used GHS Boomers for 15 years on my LP and never needed refretting let alone on a regular basis. But, yes, better to wear out strings than the frets.
KSG_Standard Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Gibson vintage or brite wire. I use 10's on my gibbies and 9's on my fenders.
Thundergod Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I've been using D'addario strings (10-42) for as long as I can remember... recently changed the strings on the les paul standard faded to ernie ball strings... maybe it's just me, but I think the difference is huge.
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Ernie Ball 9's for electric and D'addario 12's for acoustic. Whatever works for you.
rocketman Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I've been using D'addario strings (10-42) for as long as I can remember... recently changed the strings on the les paul standard faded to ernie ball strings... maybe it's just me' date=' but I think the difference is huge.[/quote'] Interesting. I've been using D'addario strings (10-42) forever too. What are the differences in terms of tone and feel?
Tim Plains Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 zachd33, there's probably 10 other threads covering this same topic. I'm sure if you browsed around you'd find them. I use what come on the guitar. Brite 13s on modern Gibsons and Vintage Reissue 10s on historics. I'm going to try those strings RichCI keeps talking about...too bad they don't make pure nickel, though. ...yet.
SRV-Zeppelin Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 +1 Tim... I wouldn't even be posting in this thread (beating a dead horse) if not for the coveted 100 000th post.... I want that t-shirt!!!
phil325 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 i use d'addario XL's 9's and 10's. mostly 9's though.
tepidy Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 DR's nickle wound,(pure blues). custom gauge 10-52
elessar820 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 GHS TNT Boomers on my electrics (10-52) and Elixir Light (12-53) on my acoustic. I don't remember what's on my bass.
Craig10119 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I Use Gibson brite wire 10's... Looking to make the jump to 11's though. I had them on my explorer years ago. They were too hard to bend properly back then... To me that is. I was about 16... I only had the explorer for a short time, so I'm thinking that i just didn't get used to them. I think I could handle it now. But I do bend the strings a hell of a lot. Especially Prebends... Love them. Sorry for going off topic everyone.
Col F Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 You need to play the strings that you like, not what all of us like.... but I've been using Ernie Ball (9s) for about 40 years. I believe that some good players also like EB...
DamienAzrael Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I use Ernie Ball Power Slinkys (11-48)
cajunman831 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 i tried gibson brite wires on my pauls and didn,t like them.been using e.b. slinky 9,s for many years.
Murph Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Ernie Ball 2221 10/46 nickel wound regular slinkys. Murph.
