Guest Farnsbarns
Some might remember that I posted a few weeks ago when our car was stolen. Yesterday we bought this... It's a BMW 325 TI sport. Very quick, we had 120 out of it on the test drive. The sequential gear box is fun too.
Riffster
Nice, I would have guessed it was a 335 by looking at the wheels. I have a 2008 328 sedan and love it. Very nimble cars.

Dennis G
Enjoy. Bmr's are great cars. I've got an '06 X5 (4.8L) that handles like a sport sedan, and the Mrs. is driving an '06 328 coupe that she loves. I also had an '04 M5 that was b i tchen', but the '06 Z06 was calling LOL! bonzoboy
That's a sweet ride that you have there, congrats. The only BMW I had was a Big Motoring Worry-it was a '93 Ford Taurus SHO,it was a very fast, smooth riding, great handling, comfortable car that stuck to the road like snot but unfortunately it was always costing us for something going wrong just about every week.It was a sin because other than that it was an incredible car and it could outrun any cop car too...lol. Guest Farnsbarns
Nice car, but it better have an M badge next time. The "Sport" models do as it happens, 5 of ’em, but not on the back of the car. There's 1 on each wheel and the steering wheel. Thanks everyone, and yes, we'll be careful. NICE car Farns!!! Gratz! Too dry for me, I don't get it BTW, we can't justify it either, the conversation basically got to a point where I said to my wife, "why are we trying to justify this to ourselves, we don't need to, we've only got one life!". Believe it or not it cost less than the value of our 20 year old classic Mini. So much so that we bought it and insured it fully comp for a year, filled the tank, bought some replacement badges and wheel centre caps and still had change from the insurance payout. Riffster
Tim wasn't kidding, in the past when we discussed BMWs he indicated he has a very short commute to work and buying a BMW to drive a couiple of miles does not make sense to him. So no, no dry humor intended by Tim. Hey farns what does the TI designation mean?
Guest Farnsbarns
Tim wasn't kidding, in the past when we discussed BMWs he indicated he has a very short commute to work and buying a BMW to drive a couiple of miles does not make sense to him. So no, no dry humor intended by Tim. Hey farns what does the TI designation mean? Touring International (not to be confused with the Touring designation which is an estate (station wagon?)). Basically it's a hatch back, not a coupe although it's still on the E46 floor pan. I have read up a bit recently and discovered that the TI version was never sold in the US. The only difference is that the rear window lifts with the boot lid and there's a removable parcel shelf (I'm sure you know what I mean) This was necessary for us as we were looking for a hatch back to accommodate the dog and a Marshall half stack (when the back seats are folded away). This particular one also has the "M tech" or "M Sports" package which was also not an option in the US. This one is 189BHP and 245Nm torque at 3500 RPM. Long story short they are a teeny tiny bit more powerful in Europe, with our higher octane fuel that will make a teeny tiny bit more of a difference too. Negligible really so it's just the hatch that's a significant difference. Oh, and full leather buckets, adjustable thigh support, firmer, lower suspension, slightly different suspension geometry and those gorgeous M Sport Alloys and M Sport steering wheel with multifunction controls. Christ, I've turned into a BMW anorak in less than a week!
Riffster
Nice, mine has about 240HP 6 cyl. not sure how that compares to BHP and has the sport suspension that grips curves tighlty but I am sure is not on the "M" level. I bought mine used to avoid initial depreciation, 10k miles for $15K USD less is a good trade off, the car still had 3 1/2 years of full service and full warranty, to this day I have yet to pay for anything including oil changes or even winshield wiper fluid. Unfortunately the rear seat does not fold on this car, the only guitar I cannot fit is my Explorer and its massive case, that one has to go in the front on the passenger side with the seat reclined. All and all great cars, congratulations.
dem00n
M cars are more about body roll then suspension, engine power or aerodynamics. They have a firm belief that the less the car rolls on the turn and the most in kept the chassis is the better the turns and faster you can go. Which is true. All and all great cars, congratulations. Yours will have what they call the performance package. It must also be a 330 with 240 BHP (generally just called HP over there). Edit: just realised you say it's a 328. I see that listed as 190bhp so maybe they really quote HP in the US market. Weird and a bit meaningless, it's calculated without taking torque into account. BTW, this is just based on what I've read this week. Highly fallible sources and all that. I'm no expert.
rocketman
Congrats! I have an E90 series, which I'm going to trade in next year for the new F30 series. They are fun cars indeed, especially in tight turns. My brother had a BMW which he traded in for a Porsche. He says that that BMW handles just as well as the Porsche. I haven't driven his car enough to make my own assessment, but as an engineer myself I find it amazing that they can design a car that is so well balanced with a front engine. Riffster
Yep the balance is great, I have put weights in the very back of the trunk inside the boot compartment to weigh the car during snow and the handling changes noticeably despite driving it at lower speeds obviously. Just goes to show how fine-tuned they are.
Tim Plains
Chan, I was serious. Actually, my commute is around 40 miles with some heavy congestion. I don't see the point in driving a BMW, or any really nice car, into Toronto or leaving it at a not-so-secure carpool lot everyday. If I didn't work in the city/carpool, I would probably look at getting a M3...but until then, a Civic will do me nicely.
Guest Farnsbarns
Oh bugger. We had planned on picking this car up tomorrow but there has been a hitch. The car was throwing up an erroneous oil level warning on occasion, the oil level sensor was to be replaced as part of the deal. The motorfactors delivered an oil pressure sensor by mistake. Now we're not able to collect it until one day next week.
dem00n
Problems before you even took it home? Bro, as an avid car nut, this is a big hint... I'm sure you can find a other one.
Guest Farnsbarns
Problems before you even took it home? Bro, as an avid car nut, this is a big hint... I'm sure you can find a other one. It's only an erroneous oil level warning proven to be a faulty sensor in the oil filler cap by way of trying one from another car. It's only a case of screwing it on like you would after topping up the oil and then plugging it in. I would have taken the car as is but it's a £70 oil filler cap. The dealer, who is selling it with a warranty, can pay that! He had to MOT it et al anyway so we couldn't have taken it last weekend so if he has it for the week he can replace the cap. I'm surprised that frightens a self proclaimed "car nut".
retrosurfer1959
Yeah it's a minor glitch but a £70 oil filler cap is why I quit driving BMW and Mercedes myself. My wife still has a Mercedes but she says she's done with them now also and was looking at Jeeps and trucks last weekend after another three week wait for a part to be delivered from Germany and a $100 headlight bulb! My insurance company even made me sign a waiver saying I would not ask for more than one (1) windshield replacement per year under insurance on our last BMW M5 because the windshield was so expensive. I quit even though there a great driving car it was basically about an 2 grand a year just in maintenance cost like oil changes that cost 170 dollars vs 24 bucks for my T-bird. I have enough ridiculous cost on the Porsche and the BMW was almost double on maintenance costs per year.
