MickFromMunhall Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 A friend has unearthed a Gibson L-4, and would like to determine its value. The only thing I can spot is a round white sticker inside, under the lower bout that has the number A-8076, visible thru the upper (as held) F hole. There isn't a serial number in sight. It apparently was modified to have a surface mounted pickup at one time, since the pick guard was modified. The Guitar Dater Project, based on the FON number A-8076 says it was made in Kalamazoo in 1951. However, I seem to remember someone here saying that there was a better resource from Gibson to get more, and more accurate info, I just can't find the link. Any help would be most appreciated. I'll work on getting some clear pictures to post Thanks to all. Mick http://s1079.photobucket.com/albums/w517/MickfromMunhall/
Ryan H Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 It is indeed a 1951. If you check the link below, the 1950 serial numbers went up to around 6500, and the 1951 serial numbers went up to around 9400. So you're right in the range. Here's the official Gibson confirmation: http://www.gibson.com/Files/downloads/bluebook/GibsonSERIALNUMBERS.pdf
