My first vintage guitar

I shouldn't have, but it was at such a steal. I got it for a total of $110. It's a vintage Norma, from the mid 60s, made in Japan under Teisco. More pictures and review when it gets here. Here's one from the auction as a preview.

Missing a few screws, but I can replace those.

eh. Ok. It woulda been great in old usenet text days.

"I shouldn't have". That's exactly right. All them guitars ever built ain't worth 110 dollars.

I'm just a crusty old guy that, like my buds, couldn't wait to not use those kinds of things anymore.

But today, they are wanted, even coveted. So enjoy! I'm glad it ended up in the hands of someone that wants it and will use it!

Now, where have I seen something like that before.........

...It's a vintage Norma, from the mid 60s, made in Japan under Teisco...

Not quite. This snippet courtesy of VintAxe.com's FAQ page;

"Normas were built in Japan between 1965 to 1970 by the Tombo Company and distributed in the U.S. by Strum´N Drum, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois."

I actually think it's quite cool. Not $110 cool, but cool nonetheless.

I've half-fancied a (don't take this the wrong way) really crappy guitar for a wee while now. Ever since I got into Seasick Steve, in fact. Somehow playing that kind of rawness on an expensive instrument just seems plain wrong...

I hope you change those grey knobs for something more appropriate, though. Perhaps FenderGuy1 can post you some spare ones from an old TV set?

Looking forward to the review when it arrives!

Those pickups are going to be weak but they should work great with fuzz pedals or a Big Muff

OP stole that guitar for the price. Norma is the same as Teisco. Those pickups are generally hotter then the Devil's left nut. Teisco's are typically shorter scale so the strings have some twang and thwap. It's a mega-gritty lo-fi garage sound unlike anything from Gibson or Fender. Think Jack White. Open your ears and have fun exploring sounds with that one! Monster score. If you don't like it, I'll take it off your hands.

I would be happy to, only control knobs not the tuner knobs

Just came about 30 minutes ago. Still cleaning it.

Anyways, the neck and body are solid through and through and both pickups work and sound great. The frets, as I suspected, are low. I'll get it refretted soon.

This is also literally the lightest guitar I've ever held. The acoustic i have outweighs it. It feels somewhere in the 3 lb range. It's very small.
