4Hayden
It's coming along nicely. I put on two coats of Watco walnut Danish oil followed by a couple coats of Minwax wipe on poly. I'm thinking one more coat will be plenty. It has protection but still looks unfinished, not plasticky. I like the natural finish look
Twiz
That looks great! Much better than how it started out with all the stickers. Natural finishes are one of my favorites.

milod
All kidding aside, what hit me were two things: 1. It's looking great. 2. It speaks well for a Gibson that after taking a beating, it's still gonna keep on tickin'. m
quapman
Looks awesome!!! Seeing it now looks like you made the right choice stripping it. I thought it looked kinda cool before and it did have character,, but when it's someone elses story it don't mean as much. Keep those pics coming. Cus2310
Thank God you stripped that eyesore, you have reverted it back to it's former glory. OK it was never a vintage but many people would love a Gibson SG like that but do not have the funds. I would be proud to have this guitar any day now. Great job
kaleb
I actually kind of dug the stickers! It was kitschy! It looks cool with the oil. Very nice! But if it was MINE, I would put my own stickers on it!
ksdaddy
On the downhill slide. I went over it with steel wool and now I'm applying Minwax finishing wax and hitting it with the buffer. I can't get good pics but it sorta has the look of a well polished fingerboard as opposed to having a finish on it. There's just enough finish on it to protect it but still looks naked. Sheen I guess would be a good term.
Izzy
WoW, that looks awesome already. Was it worth it now that you're getting it close to finished? The title of your post reminds me of when we were debating weather to take the stickers off and you were all, "oh, man!"
ksdaddy
No regrets other than if I decide to splurge on a used cherry Standard I'll never get my time back out of this one!

ksdaddy
I know the SG FB page did. Pretty cool! On the right is what it looks like as of this morning:

stein
I would say that from the description of what you SAID you wanted it to be before you did it, you NAILED it! It looks exactly like you described you were after, in every way. I think you did a fine job. Just from what little I can see from the pic, it looks to me a step up from what they leave the factory like, but yet doesn't have a look like over-done or anything really describale, except "wood". stein
No regrets other than if I decide to splurge on a used cherry Standard I'll never get my time back out of this one! Why not 'Watco Cherry"?
ksdaddy
Why not 'Watco Cherry"? Weeeeelll, if it's going to be a stripped "natural wood" bare bones one, I wanted a walnut look. When I think Standard, however, I'm all about the heritage cherry look.
Thundergod
That guitar has gone to hell and back! Maybe she can tell the future!!! :)
