I can get the EHX Memory Boy for $186 new or the Wayhuge aqua puss for $100 new5 or tc nova for $175. Which is better? The only reason I would get the EHX over WayHuge is the tap tempo. Is tap tempo that important? Whst other pedals shoud I use? Mxr carbon copy? Boss gigi? I have a telecaster and les paul and play through a vox ac15 and do worship music at church, and rock and blues.

I would recommend the TC Nova. It has Tap Tempo, you can set 9 different custom delay presets, plus the Toneprint option is cool. Try before you buy of course.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for fairly short delay times and don't need modulation the the Aqua Puss is perfect.

If you need some longer delay times and want modulation then the Memory Boy would be the top choice.

If you want a digital delay with some stereo features then check out the TC.

Personally, of those options I'd go with the Aqua Puss or Memory Boy. I've had some pedals with tap tempo and never use it. I think it's very simple to just turn the knob to the right setting. If your band is constantly going out of time and you need to make adjustments then your delay pedal is not the problem you should focus on

Other pedals you should check out.. For analog check out the Malekko 616. I've had one of these and it's great. Really cool modulation and easy to use.

For digital check out the Boss DD-7. Lots of cool features. Great sounding delay, great looper, probly won't ever break.

To me it's not really useful at all but I guess some people find it useful. I guess it's mainly to change the delay tempo mid song without using your hands. I prefer to set the delay tempo where I like it before I start playing and stick with it.

For the delay time it just depends on what you're going for I guess. In worship I think you'd use most of your delay in about the 400ms range. Longer delay times just means more space between the repeats, so you use it for really slow spacey stuff usually. You'll probably stay somewhere in the middle for most of your delay use.

Digitech XDD DigiDelay

It has up to 4 seconds delay time.

I've tried a few, and IMO this is one of the best.

And you can get them new for under $100

I've made several, bought a bunch.. Right now my favorite is my Maxon AD-9 Pro.

It's got an amazing analog delay sound and it's super easy to use.

Bluesguitar if you've got a DM-2 you might let go of I definitely want it!

LOL!! OK Dubs...you'll be the first on the list, but I must tell you, I've had it since 1982, I'm the original owner, purchased it new when I was still in High School. [thumbup] [thumbup]

Ahh sounds like its going nowhere. If you ever find it gathering dust though I would definitely buy it and put it to good use :)

I've had a few, most built in the amp or a cheap one from a floor pedal. I'm happy with the Boss-DD-7. The tap tempo is great, and it came with a separate plug in for a separate tap, which is better than the manual tap it has built in. I think because you can tap it with your foot, and not bend over and fiddle with the manual tap feature.

Not sure that made sense, but it separated the feature settings so that when you find the right one, the foot tap is right there so you don't screw the settings up. It has both digital and analogue. Has a recording feature, short but nice to practice with.

I can't deal with one that is not on the beat. I suppose if you turn the blend function down you could set this so you wouldn't have to tap a tempo. But with either option, the beat is, imho, better. It might not be that important in worship settings but, r&b, blues, rock, jazz, ect where a beat is part of the object, it is nice.

Can't beat a carbon copy for simple analog

Indeed. My personal favorite is the DM-2 because I generally only use slapback and short delays, but the CC Delay was a good bit more versatile.

I've got three in my signal chain at this point in time which do different things and are used for different settings.

I have a Way Huge Aqua puss which I use for my long delays, around 400 MS with the feedback mostly down and the level about half way up. It's great for leads and a bit more dynamic for certain stuff. I use a Arion Stereo Analog Delay for my short repeats, around 10-25 MS with the repeats at around 1 or 2 on the dial and the blend about half way. Then I have a "Cosmo Delay" which was built by GGS (please see signature below) and that is a really dark coloring signal tone and has tons of feedback and oscillations which I use at certain points to go bat shart crazy.

I have used the EH Memory Toy, which in my experience is a terrible failure at a product destined to fall apart within hours of use, so avoid it at all costs. I have used a MXR Carbon Copy and found it didn't really do me justice, why I'm not too sure. I just know it wasn't working for any of my applications, however it seemed to be a great pedal. I've had a couple of Rogue Analog Delays and they worked just okay. I found that they had a bit of crackle to the repeats after a certain point, very degenerative, the price reflected the quality. I have also used a couple of Boss Digital Delays, DD-3's, DD-5's and DD-7's. All of which did more than I was looking for and never really appealed to me, however I would like to have a DD-7 again just to have around.

From my experience I would definitely say don't go cheap. Maybe try and find a nice vintage analog delay or save up and get the Aqua Puss, since I've owned it I've loved it. I wish I had two pusses...

Good luck!

This thread can't possibly be all that useful to OP. Almost every single person here has recommended a different pedal. msp_lol.gif

Many good first hand opinions have been offered.......Andrew won't need or use tap tempo.....As such, I recommend the Carbon Copy or the Aqua Puss......

I'm in the camp that owns and uses many delay pedals..........Andrew can only afford one..............

This is what I have, a Marshall Echo head, with several delays to choose from, main output, spill output and a tap tempo input, if you want to use tap tempo you plug in a momentary pedal switch.

Yep. I have one of these, and a Boss DD3. Those two pedals cover all my delay needs. From your list, I've tried the Memory Boy, and the AquaPuss. I liked the sound of the Memory Boy a little more. Just my opinion though.
