Casino4Life
What are people's thoughts with putting Grovers on SGs as opposed to the stock Delyxe tuners. I know it was popular to do back in the 60s/70s

BobB
My mid'70's SG had Grovers on it when I acquired it, but personally, I like the Deluxe style tuners just as much as the Grovers.
Twiz
The only thing that bugs me is the screw holes that are left over when you remove the deluxe tuners, and attach a set of Grovers. I think it looks terrible. The tuners are great though. I have a set of them on my Epiphone acoustic (it came with them on it).
RowdyMoon
I changed to 18:1 grovers on my SG Standard....they dropped right in and the screw holes lined up perfectly (only one screw needed with the grovers) ... I like the look and the functionality better......the stock tuners to me look cheap and " plasticy " JMO mind you.
Casino4Life
Yea I changed the stock tuners on my Epi Casino with Grover Rotomatics and I like the heavier feel it gets and it does improve tuning hands down, the left over hole is not a big issue
JM2112
I would prefer Grover Keystone tuners on my SG, got these on my LP Classic Custom and I LOVE them. I like the chrome look and the style of the tuners.
Dallastx
I put Grovers on my Les Paul and I like them on it. I'm happy with the OE tuners on my SG after working on the nut. D

Dallastx
Will adding strap locks void the warranty? Will hitting the headstock on the ground and breaking it void the warranty? I doubt protecting your investment will.

JM2112
Had to ask, ya never know about some of their warranty conditions You could ask Gibson if there are any luthiers that are authorized to work on their guitars in your area so as not to void your warranty. old mark
If you have a neck dive problem with SG's,Grovers will make the neck heavier...but they are GREAT tuners. Up to you, really. mark
Casino4Life
Yea it has made the Casino neck heavy, but someone said using a suede strap helps prevent that?
JM2112
Yea it has made the Casino neck heavy, but someone said using a suede strap helps prevent that? A suede or leather strap will do a better job of helping to keep the guitar in place than a nylon strap will. I don't mind a nylon strap when sitting down, but when standing nylon straps just slide on my shoulder. Since the SG is a lighter guitar than a LP a suede strap is, IMHO, the better choice. Levy's makes some great leather and suede straps.
Casino4Life
We will cross that bridge when we get there with Grovers

I have to agree..If you have neck heavy problems, a wide leather strap is a great way to cure most of that...they last for decades, too and I think they are far more comfortable. mark
