Ear-training is the way to go for a kid just starting out. If you're a middle-aged or older person and you don't plan on going anywhere, tabs and this "Rocksmith" are fine. And if it helps a kid get into playing im all for it :) I have tried playing Guitar Hero a few times around friends and it just did my head in.. Instead of this watered-down, depressing crap on the radio nowadays, they can get the classics, which will lead them to more underground stuff. Me too....
