1st fret Inlays

Thanks for the thoughts.

I am sure once I get used to it, it won't bother me. It is just after so many years of playing guitars without anything in the first fret, when I sneak a peak down at the neck when I'm playing, it throws me off a little bit.

.

Actually, I've got a couple of guitars with no fret markers, just side dots, which is what I reference when playing.

I feel the same way. First or third doesn't matter to me. I'm only looking at the dots on the top. I tend to think of inlays as something for the people watching you play to look at, or bling.

Most of the guitars I've owned have had inlays beginning at the first fret. I prefer that look, which generally (traditionally) went more hand in hand with higher-grade models.

When I'm playing, I do look at the inlays to help guide me (and I've been more aware of that since getting my first classical guitar after 35 years of playing), but I never get lost down near the nut anyway, regardless of whether there's an inlay at the first fret or not.
