kidd Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Came across this vintage Gibson. S#8536 Needs a fretboard and some work on the body (the neck pulled away on the back)
Slim Chance Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Looks like an L-3. Spann's book sez FON 8536 was made in 1926.
The Timber Owls Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 It appears to be an early Gibson L-3 Archtop. The rings around the soundhole are wood and solid strips (as opposed to some intricate design). In addition, it holds the old lyre style Gibson label, which was used up until 1910, so you appear to have a very early model. Also, the Serial Number is different from the FON. The serial number would put it between 1906 and 1907. For more information, you can find some here: http://home.provide.net/~cfh/gibson2.html#l3
