ol fred Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 The ad says 1955 County Western ??? Everything including the year says it is not. FON and serial # are listed. Appears to be in great shape if you can believe the photos. Q: What is it ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Gibson-Country-Western-Guitar-Original-Vintage-SJ-J35-J45-J50-Brown-Case-/200822115416?pt=Guitar&hash=item2ec1ee4c58
tvguit Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 This one went up on Craigslist from the original family a few months back. I just about flipped my lid when I saw the ad. I was working on plans to get there and when I called back (a few hours later) it was gone. That thing is the definition of CLEAN!

tvguit Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I think you would have to see shipping ledgers to know for sure. I think that is kind of splitting hairs though. The label looks very well written. If they did do it through the sound hole then well done! Whether it is a CW or an SJN or whatever, I WANT IT!!

We'll be waiting for good news..
jannusguy2 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I think it's a natural top southern jumbo. they started that option in 1954 and it went on to become the C&W. or am i out to lunch ..?

That is likely to be true. The only thing contrary to that is that it has an orange label with an A prefix serial number. I haven't seen any Southern Jumbos with orange labels. Sounds to me like it was something special. Anyone have access to shipping ledgers???
Run Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I would take a look at the low strings break angle at the bridge.
E-minor7 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 A nicer than nice Country and Western it is.
j45nick Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I would take a look at the low strings break angle at the bridge. Obviously needs a neck re-set, as it even mentions the action is a bit high.
duluthdan Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Interesting guitar, certainly as a collectors item I suppose, but indulge me here for a moment. Cost on this guitar is about $6,000. Needs a neck reset, estimates? Never had one done so I don't know - once the neck is re-set do the frets need to be leveled /polished? Realistic to estimate you be investing another $1,000 for the neck and frets Perhaps + a bit for unknowns? For a 1955? I'm a player (a hack player)don't imagine I'll ever get into any of this, but curious on the thought process here.
stein Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I would take a look at the low strings break angle at the bridge. Neck reset time. I have a Martin like that. The action is good, but the pins sticking up above the bridge makes it hard to play certain things.
iwalktheline Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Holy Hell , and I thought the saddle on my "76" Dove was low. I guess I shouldn't complain then.
