onewilyfool
I have SEVERAL sets of guitar strings, both electric and acoustic, which I will not be using in the near or far future. Due to my body chemistry rapidly aging non-coated strings, I use Elixirs now, exclusively. Just putting it out. If we all listed the strings we don't want or old sets that we no longer will use, might be a good place to mix and match in trades to get the right strings to the right users.....just a thought, just a suggestion, no strings attached...... Hairy Dave
Great idea Wily. Unfortunately I've nothing to offer at the minute! Sounds like a good way to experiment with strings we might not ordinarily buy.
Mojorule
I've got a few old Augustine nylon strings with a picture of Segovia on the packet. Mostly blues rather than blacks. So higher tension apparently. Any use for those, Wily? Given how long the original Masterbuilts have lasted on my Woody, I can safely say that my body chemistry is very compatible with 80/20s. ;)
fortyearspickn
I've got a slightly tarnished vintage Black Diamond G-string.
Mojorule
This is a top idea, btw. Just I don't have anything to bring to the table, much as I'd happily take some strings off your hands. Somebody will post with a worthwhile offer soon, though. I'm beginning to suspect that Fortyears is really Peter Stringfellow.
JohnnyReb
Well I got a few sets of Martin lifespan SP phospher bronze I don't use. Sam ash music gave me a few of them and I'm not real keen on them. I've actually put them on Craigslist before to swap for Elixers Maybe you have something in this idea

Denis57
Yeap! Good idea but unfortunately I only use Elixirs too, at least for the moment .
onewilyfool
I think a good start, would be for us to list the sealed packages we have, and to see who is interested. What do you think? Might be a string swap meet.....several packets of strings for a uke? A tuner? A capo??? Let's get creative!!!
GuitarLight
Yes Elixirs put an end to wasted stings for me. All my old un-coated strings were given away or thrown away. I store many boxes of Elixirs in a large sealed plastic pretzel jar, with descants inside it to remove all humidity inside. In the container I place a small hygrometer that can be seen through the plastic jar. It generally stays around 10 to 20 degrees of humidity or lower, which keeps them pristine and perfect no matter how many years they are stored. The top of the pretzel jar--its plastic lid-- is sealed air tight at the seam, with simple electrical tape which is easy to unwind from the seam when I need to get in the jar for strings. I have stored Elixir strings, and regular strings, like this for over 10 years in the jar...and when opened..no difference from new, with no tarnish, and perfect tone. This method will also store UN-COATED strings of every kind, and will keep them store bought new, till you need them!
