Just fell in love (again)

I just looked on Gibson's web site and see that the Custom has a Richlite fingerboard not rosewood. So besides this the difference between the Custom and Standard is the Custom are the pickups, whih are 490R and 498T on the Custom, Gold plated hardware, the shape of neck position markers, headstock inlay, and binding on the back.

There are no coil tap or phase options and the frets are the

"fretless wonder" type.

For this they charge $2500 more on the list price. This comes out to about $1500 more at the store level. That does not make any sense to me. You get less and pay more?

Fingerboard, pickups, and electronics are downgraded and the frets are a matter of personal choice but I would think most people would want at least medium frets. The rest is just bling and not all that fancy in any case. The bridge and tail piece are not locking like the Standard and the tuning pegs do not appear to be locking as well. The way Gibson describes it they are using the swiss cheese weight relief.

Am I looking at the right thing? What color is the one you pictured? Is that considered Wine Red? Perhaps they have not updated their web site.

I don't get it??

Edit: I must be looking at the wrong thing. I am looking at a Custom Shop version. I do not see a Gibson USA version of the Custom. Can you show me a link?

Thanks.

I just looked on Gibson's web site and see that the Custom has a Richlite fingerboard not rosewood. ....

The specs list rosewood - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPOrngWdo

What's spec'd on the website and what's actually used on any specific guitar are two different things. Gibson sometimes changes specs without notification. When it comes to specs (measurements, materials, etc) you can count on Gibson to be inconsistent. It doesn't surprise me that these Orange Widow Customs have a rosewood fretboard.

Cool look. Not a USA. Notice the CS serial.

I love that finish. So they are only making 25 of them in this color. What other colors do they come in with a rosewood neck, which should be ebony, or is it just this limited run? Does Gibson USA make an LP Custom or do they only come from the Custom Shop?

Sorry for all the questions. I am not up to speed on LP Customs as I always focused on the Standards. I know about the Gibson USA Custom Classic, which is not really a Custom at all.

.

Hey BillyBob - USA uses the Custom split diamond inlay on the the current Custom Classic which is a USA made guitar, not officially a Custom as you mentioned.

These LPC Widows are a limited Custom Shop run - I've seen both 25 and 35 each listed for 2012 Orange and Green Widow LPC - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPCGrnWdo

A while back (2009?) there was release with a Black Widow finish, I think was a limited R7 run of 25 -

You are so right!

That is so funny.

If Batman played guitar he would definately be playing the Red Widow. In fact it would look great with an ebony body and the red binding and inlay.

Maybe a Marshall with a red logo and red piping instead of the white would complete the look.
