I have a 1984 Les Paul Studio Custom ser# 81224510. It has a sunburst finish, dot inlays on a rosewood fretboard and triple binding around the normal maple on top of mahogany body. none of the books i've look at mention the line at all and I'm wondering if anyone knows how many were made or anything else useful about them.

They were produced for a couple years in the mid-80s, like maybe 1984-1986 as you mentioned - so it wasn't a limited run. Since they weren't a limited run, Gibson won't give out the production numbers. I think they were bound like a LP Custom, but with dot markers (not block markers) and gold silk screened headstock logos (Gibson script and Les Paul Model script), not MOP Gibson and split diamond inlays.

yep, that describes it to a T. GuitarCenter thought it was a "Studio Light" and sold it to me for $700. it's been 11 years since then and I've only seen 1 other (on Ebay and in slightly better condition, sold quickly for buy it now price of $1700). I think Gibson wont release production numbers because they just don't have the info :o/
