My new Gibson ES-335

Recommended Posts

Yours looks like good quality wood to me not that I'd be the one to pass judgement on that, hah.

Heh, thanks. BTW, I have removed the pick-guard paper since this was taken. Bought this for a steal, NOS (2008) and had a very small finish crack by the tailpiece post. New with full warranty. How do you like yours so far? I'd like mine better if my amp wasn't in dire need of new tubes, which it's getting in 2 weeks when the amp tech I use gets back from vacation.

I'm totally in love with mine actually, although I've only ever played one other one which I tried through a Fender Mustang amp which I hated (the amp I mean, not the guitar). I'm playing it through a Roland Jazz Chorus 55 an even though its a solid state amp I have to confess that I love the clean tone I get from it.

A friend of mine owns a bunch of amps, so I went over tonight and tried a few out and we played together for a bit. He played his 137 (which he's trying to sell). The one I liked the best with the ES-335 was the Bassman. Wow what a sweet, bluesy tone! I can't wait to get my amp fixed.

Great looking 335... [thumbup]

Many hereon will extol the virtues of various amps suitable for said guitar

Several of the Roland Cubes have the 'Jazz Chorus' circuitry inbuilt to replicate the splendid clean sounds...

And the valve amp choice is limitless

I use Laney VC30 and LH50...and Fender DeLuxe...

Many Happy Years of joyful tonery wished !!

Interesting that somebody is selling an ES137...IMO a fantastic versatile guitar also...

If you knew this guy, you'd understand. He's a session musician who is also in a couple bands, and owns more guitars than anybody I know. Mostly various versions of Strats and SGs (around a half dozen each), though he has an elitist Casino in the mix, at least one LP, a Firebird, a few acoustics, and I don't even know what else. He used to have a 335 but sold it because he was afraid someone would steal it at a gig. He's kicked himself ever since. I think his goal is to pay down some debt and then eventually re-acquire a 335. The 137 seems to be the most valuable guitar he has that he can live without.

He has a Youtube channel where he demos all the guitars he owns. The 137 is in a few of them:

Will, congrats on a beee-utiful 335! I saw your post on another board yesterday. I've always liked the cherry with the figured top. It's gorgeous. If it plays half as good as it sounds, then you should be a very happy man. [thumbup]

So you are in NZ? I've heard it's beautiful down there.

I have great success running my 335 through a Fender Hot Rod DeVille. Great combination of guitar and amp.

Great photos!

Beautiful guitars, beautiful landscape....and the cat!

And - @Csprague - I have a Twin Reverb II also, I'm on my 2nd one since 1982 - a truly great Rivera-designed Fender, people don't know how amazing these amps are...but I've never seen an all-black one before.

All very nice indeed!

Hi William,

Another new 335 owner in Wellington here!!

Was that the guitar that was in the Lower Hutt Rock Shop for a while?

I just bought a vintage sunburst plain top from them and it's just awesome!

Seems like 335's are the 'in' guitar to have these days....

Cheers

Del

Here's mine which looks exactly like yours, a 2011 Dot Re-issue. You can't see the beautiful figured top and sides in the photo. Quite simply the finest Guitar I've ever owned or played.
