X-Bracing or Ladder

Recommended Posts

Ladder bracing works well on guitars that use floating bridges and/or trapeze-style tailpieces. This is because unlike a regular acoustic bridge, where the strings are pulling Up on the bridge, with a trapeze tailpiece as the anchor, the strings are putting pressure Down on the bridge. Ladder bracing prevents the top from caving in. I've played steel-string acoustics (mainly Harmony guitars) with Ladder bracing, and they really have that old-time blues sound to them. It's Very different from an X-braced or fan-braced guitar.
