New J 45 bellying?

noah fine

Recommended Posts

Hey people,

I'm new. I'm just headaching over somethings. I actually have two questions:

1. Is it normal for newer J 45'S to belly behind the bridge and arch the bridge forward? It's happened to two I have owned. The first a 2008 used, then I complained about it to the shop and they gave me 2012 at the same price but the 2012 is looking like it's going the same direction. Normal?

2. I'm considering trading the j45 for a Blues King. Any thoughts?

Thanks a lot.

My 2010 J45 TV is fine too. Are you in standard tuning ? No experience with the Blues King, waiting for others to chime in.

Yeah I stick to standard tuning. So Is there any difference between a TV and standard that would lead to this issue? I have checked out other J45s in the shop. Non of them are flat.

2 different guitars. The blues king is just that. Newer ones come with a gig bag and I have found are pretty inconsistent j45 is the workhorse well rounded guitar what style do you play? Also bellying at the bridge? 4 years old shouldn't bellying from my experience

You do know that Gibson "flat tops" are built with a slightly arched top and back? Just how much of a "belly" are you seeing on these guitars?

+1

Sounds like too much humidity or other environmental issues. .....

+1 - - - could be if the belly is more than spec'ed.

Here's a good thread on the subject with good pics and Gibson Montana C/S Jeremy Morton commenting - http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/80297-is-this-too-much-belly-bulge/ . The pics should give you a good idea of acceptable belly amount.

This. Most flat tops are not flat, they're designed (for structural reasons) to have a bit of an arch to them. Question is whether the belly your seeing is normal or not. Got pics? That might help. Also, do take a good look at the thread that BigKahune posted a link to.
