Cooperstowncook Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Hey guys. I've taken the plunge and started changing out my own pickups instead of paying someone else to do it for me. I recently bought 2005 Gibson SG Standard that had Seymour Duncan antiquity's installed as pickups. I removed them and installed the original stock pickups that came with the guitar. After I installed them, I was testing out my work and everything seems to be working fine. However, the neck pickup is much quieter than the bridge pickup or when both pickups are being used. I checked all the solder points and they SEEM to be okay...any suggestions here? Did I wire something incorrectly? The pickups aren't labeled, so it's possible I even installed the bridge pickup in the neck and vice-versa. Idk, any help is appreciated guys. Thank you.
Twiz Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 This probably is a dumb suggestion, but check how far away the neck pickup is from the strings. If it's way down, that will make things considerably more quiet. Hopefully it's something simple like that, and not a bad pickup!
EVOL! Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I had a similar issue with a bridge pickup on an old SG. Everything checked out so I took it into a tech and it took two other techs looking at it to find that there was a short in the wire. Completely odd and random issue.

It was one of the first things I checked. Thank you though!
Jon S. Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Have you checked the outputs on both? The 498T is quite a bit hotter than the 490R, but you should be able to tell if there's an issue if one is reading too low.
