Vintage mahogany studio sounds like my 336

My dad bought me a cherry red 336TDC back in 1968. Was my main guitar for for 37 years. Became too valuable to take out so I sold it to a collector. Bought a 50th aniversary standard Strat for something different. Yesterday at GC in Tampa I was introduces to a 2004 VM les Paul Studio with the Alnico V burstbuckers and this thing very close in sound to my 335. Had to buy it...sounds beautiful through my 67 vibrolux reverb. I am very impressed with the sound of the guitar.:-k

me too. i have one and the sound is wonderfull. just by hearing it i wouldn't guess it was 750.00 (when i got it) or 900.00 it is now. wonderful value. there are a few drawbacks though- lack of binding (i love binding but it is a studio after all), and soft wood which dents and scratches easily. i've had mine for around four months now. i've felt like i should've saved for a standard faded sometimes for purely aesthetics and reputation but i'm happy with the vm and the price will make it easier for me to get my acoustic. i will most likely customize it over time and if i do that i know i'll like it better than the std because it will be unique.

congrats on the guitar. you'll like it - i sure do.

i too have a VM,as i said on one of the other posts, when i saw the price,i thought it was a factory second.you are right that it dents easily, mine has a few made from nothing....but i don´t miss the binding,or the gloss finish....i actually prefer guitars that are not that catchy, like a supreme LP..that´s too much for me.the VM is just what a guitar should be....like a telecaster....no lies:) i have it for a couple of years now,and trough a fender hot rod,a few tweaks, you can get virtually any sound
