bobby b
I feel sorry for this poor old (1963) Hummingbird....... sad.....just sad. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Gibson-Hummingbird-acoustic-guitar-humming-bird-vintage-dove-j45-j160e-/300793561904?_trksid=p4340.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D2697414596836182778%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D3%26sd%3D230852428569%
MissouriPicker
Remember the old Timex Watch ads? "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking." I'm definitly not a luthier of any kind, but I suspect it would take some real money to truly restore that guitar. More than what they're want for it. For me, if I already owned it, I'd likely get it structually sound and maybe pretty-up the worst cosmetic damage and then have a blast playing it. Even ol Johnny Cash wasn't real pretty after he'd traveled all those rough roads, but what a diamond in the rough he was. With the right attention, this guitar could be real sweet to own. retrorod
That IS sad!.....for 200 bucks and some 'luthier love'....I might consider. He is 'rather' ambitous with his starting price
j45nick
Well, I didn't think it looked that bad. I've bought worse. It just needs a bit of love and money.

E-minor7
Saw this one some days ago and thought - here's a nice summer cottage string-board. But where went the bindings ?
retrorod
The bindings went the way of most 'crusty, plastic' things! That guitar needs work. It will never be 'original' again and therefore not worth that asking price.....Tis' sad!!!!

At about half that starting price, I might well buy it. The guitar has a lot of character, and I would bet that a '63 'bird could be a nice guitar. Certainly you would buy it as a player, as it will never have any collector value. Maybe I'm just a sucker for orphan guitars...... Edit: I may be a sucker for orphan guitars, but on closer inspection, this one appears to have laminated sides, which I did not realize some 'birds in this period had. Rod's original estimate of $200 might be closer to the right number given the work required, but I would probably give $500 for it, just because it's an early 'bird. And we all know the early 'bird catches the worm.......
