Californiaman
That's right, I had a traffic violation while crossing no-mans-land in California. Highway 41 from Yosemite Valley to the Central Coast. I hate two-lane roads. In California the speed limit on a two-lane road is 55 mph. I guess I was a bit impatient wanting to get home and passed someone going 65. The Highway Patrolman ticketed me for speeding and unsafe passing. It was traffic school or points on my driving record. Since my record has been spotless for over a decade, I thought it best to take the class. Traffic school isn't what it used to be—sitting around in a court house all Saturday while you listen to somebody lecture you all day about rules and regulations of driving. Now all you have to do is log on, sign up and successfully pass a test.

Dennis G
I feel your pain Man. I've driven 46 from I5 to Paso Robles and back several times. Nasty road. Juat ask James Dean. I have, unfortunately, sat through 4 or 5 of those "courthouse sessions" in the past (yes, I drive fast). My last traffic school was done online and was an absolute breeze. The only way to go (and I'm sure I'll get another chance at it as well LOL). And yes, I do have a radar detector, and am normally a very observant driver, just because I have to be! Sometimes the Cops are just smarter.
ChanMan
I feel your pain, sir. I recently had to donate the better part of a Saturday in traffic school. Apparently, it is now illegal in the State of Tennessee to travel at 63 mph in a 50 mph zone, or so said the sherriff. I missed one hella tourney and a great guy's knighting because of it, but my driving record is clean. Oh, and I had to answer roll when they started and sign out when it was over. No test. the class was interesting. Taught by my old high school baseball coach. Seriously.

Californiaman
It's a darn good thing you didn't have a Les Paul with a ONE PIECE rosewood fretboard in yer trunk..... ..... I know. I know. What's he doing with that in his trunk. Guilty! Here's this for that I couldn't resist. Prison Bound Play along now. Chords G D E C G D Well, I'm goin' to a place where the tough guys go E D C and come out even tougher. G D A place where a man don't show his feelings, E D C a place where a man don't cry. G Well, they say I'm bein' punished D and they say I can be reformed E D C but some day I'll return. G D Did they really think that this time it'd work, E D C you knew all along it wouldn't. Chorus:---- G D Oh, I'm prison bound E D C I did a crime one too many times. G D It's on the outskirts of town by the railroad tracks E D C where the country moon shines. Oh, I'm prison bound tell my girl I'll be back one day. Oh, I'm prison bound I may never know any other way. Well, they've taken away my freedom of expression or action Johnny says I'll walk the line with three hots and a cot and a lot of talk with lock-up concrete and steel. Well, It's cold and It's clammy man it's colder than a pimp's heart but I gotta do my time. There's a lesson to be learned here but what a price to pay you know, I may never learn- Chorus:--- That's It-- Like most Social D it's a simple chord progression, but a lot of fun to play! stein
In California, if you are driving the speed limit, it looks REAL suspicious. They pull you over for that more. Last time I was in "traffic school", was here in Oregon, and you GET to go for "seatbelt infractions"...at least it was back then, and it was just after they passed the law, or some law that they could pull you over for it specifically, or whatever. Anyway, it was "taught" by this lady/hag, who was quite strict, said we NEEDED to be awake and hear it. She was sure to tell us how she was not married (duh), how she has dedicated her life to getting the laws passed through "activism", and how we NEEDED poeple like her to care enough to take the time to tell us what we needed to do and know. And she made it clear the whole time poeple were not allowed to have an opinion that was not hers. You think YOU deserve a holler for passing class? Seriously, I damned near walked up to the front with a checkbook, and also nearly got up and just left. But, I didn't. I passsssed. I'll take the online test, your honor. I'll pay the fine. I'll take the hour in jail, your honor.
Californiaman
My online exam featured several security questions during the prep tests. Random stuff like "the human body loses about 500 million skin cells an hour," or "the author lived in Ridgecrest, CA from 1982-83." Probably my favorite was "Cows are called ruminants because of the presence of the largest second chamber, called the rumen, out of a total of four chambers in the stomach of an animal labeled as such." Again, totally random. "I was once in an accident where someone turned right in front of me. I wasn't hurt and came to believe in God after the accident." And I had know the answers for this stuff. I got to the point where I was skimming just to find carefully hidden bits of random information.
rocketman
In Texas if you have a clean record (forgot for how many years) and your ticket is for less than 20 MPH over the limit, then you can rent a video to watch (10 years ago it was about $80). You then have a certain amount of minutes to answer some very basic questions through the internet. If you pass it then you're done!

I guess I get the point. OK, I guess what I should be saying is, "congratulations on passing such a weird random test" and be happy for you. I mean, I don't actually wish having to listen to an activist on your opposing side who just made your life a little worse on anybody. And, I also get that even without that, often having to do something for a ticket has the same implications, even if it isn't stated. I mean, sometimes there is an "in" before "justice", and sometimes some take pleasure in reminding you of the "in" as a form of punishment knowing you don't LIKE it up in there. So you crossed the line passing? Oh dear. What a shock that must be, that a California driver would pass a guy on a two lane California road at THAT particular spot. And to think, a cop happened to be there at the same time to put a stop to this kind of thing. And gee, they let you off? Lucky you it wasn't worse! Just sayin', always GOOD to get out from it "in" ya.
retrosurfer1959
Yeah I did the traffic school online last year it was better than sitting in a class but not much since it was paced to take at least 4 hours I'm sure as punishment since I could take the test in about 8 minutes if they would just let you take it. The last ticket was going to California but still on the Arizona side headed towards Blythe which is probably the most boring section of roadway anywhere and I find it impossible to drive the speed limit there. What's worse no radar guns or lasers so a radar detector is useless they use a airplane. I was going fast enough I got to go see the judge right then . they had a video and when you cross a big x the clock starts and when you cross another x in the road it stops they hand you a certificate that says it's exactly one mile and show you the math. Then you plead guilty since you can't really argue it. And pay the huge fine and your free to go. Luckily my wife was with me or they tow your car. I got a ticket in the same place 25 years ago or so and it cost me $400 this time I was slower (not by much) and my ticket with the fee's etc. was $1140 so im not sure if speed kills but it can sure drain your wallet. I thought the worst part was listening to a traffic judge that was about 25 lecture me on the dangers of speeding for about 20 minutes but I was wrong. The bad part was listening to my wife complain all the way back to Phoenix about my lead foot and the number of tickets Ive had to pay and how much extra insurance costs because of how I drive...
