Question on New (2012) SG Standards

I'm looking at adding a SG Standard to my collection. I've got a 65 SG Jr that I really like but I've been jonesing for an SG Standard. My question is is a new (2012) SG Standard build quality as good as older ones, say from the 90's? The going price for a new SG Standard is around $1200. Locally I've seen 1990's SG standards from $700 and up. I usually buy used and not new but the price seemed low enough for a new standard. Thanks....

Well, you know, the advantage to buying new over used is being able to select. You can shop, try, walk away, and search to your heart's delight.

So, if new is an option, why not get out there and see what and if any ring your bell?

Very true! I've played a few new locally but there is usually only one or two out. Been checking on the locals too for a good used one. Thanks for your input!

Speed knobs!

I love my 2011 SG Standard, however after I have switched out the potentiometers and capacitors it sounds even better. The stock electronics minus the pickups didn't really do it for me. Other than that it's unbelievable.

Good luck!

I own a 2011 Heritage Cherry Gibson SG Standard (it came off the line the March 8, 2011 and I picked it up at a dealer om March 28, 2011, as the sales rep was taking it out of the box) and I love it. a very solid (no pun intended) guitar

and well built. The sound, as it's played through my VOX AC30 is great! It's my main guitar when playing Rock Music. I would buy this over the Epiphone G-400 any day. Plus you're buying a guitar that will appreciate in value as time goes on. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
