Hey all...

So over the past few weeks an amazing story has unfolded...

I'll start at the beginning. My first "real" electric guitar was a Yamaha SSC-500 that I traded my first not-so-hot Washburn electric for about 20 years ago. My little red Yamaha was my only electric for about 10 years. Then I purchased my Gibson L6-S and the Yamaha sat. Well, in an evening of drunken promises, I GAVE away my Yamaha to some girl I was hoping to get lucky with. Well, as it turns out, she had luck on her side... she moved to Chicago soon there after with her new guitar and that's the last I saw of both of them.

Well, it's been a thorn in my side ever since. I've cruised ebay for years looking to replace her (the guitar that is!) but I could never find one that was in as nice of condition as the one I let go. About a weeks or so ago I was poking around Gbase and discovered an SSC-500 advertised to be in fantastic shape...cherry red and with the original case. It was for sale at Chicago Music exchange and I got to thinking. What, if by some crazy chance, it was my old Yamaha? Well, I pulled the trigger and it showed up a few days ago. I pulled the case out of the box and I swear it started talking to me... there was a familiar chip in the case and some lifting tolex by the handle. Then I opened it up and there was a familiar ding... and some polishing marks between the pickups. There was a little ding the tip of the headstock... I couldn't believe it, It WAS my old guitar! Now I know there are probably hundreds if not thousands of these guitars floating around but I'd bet dollars to donuts this is my old axe, hands down.

And so after 10 years living in Chicago, and god only knows where else, she's come home to Oregon. It's not the greatest guitar in the world but I have a lot of fond memories of playing it over the years... my fist gigs, a crazy halloween party that I won't get into [blink] , and jamming all through college. Here's a video of her in action... 'Ol Red. Welcome home!

Great story! [thumbup]

And I liked your playing too! Ol' Red looks like she was made to be in your hands. [biggrin]

And I hope you learned a valuable lesson.

NEVER give a guitar to a woman again!! (or anybody for that matter). [flapper][biggrin]

Here's my '86 SE350 that I bought in '87. It's my first proper electric and is an incredible player. Built like a tank too.

The upper horn on mine looks very similar to your SSC-500.

Glad you got yours back, BTW! Mine has too much sentimental value to ever sell too.
