Recommendations for basic DVD

Recommended Posts

Any one have any recommendations for a good, self taught, pace yourself instructional DVD for a beginner?

My son has been interested for a few years, but doesn't have a regular schedule so can't do the one on one lesson thing. You Tube is ok, but hit and miss and obviously not structured. He's tried one already and it was bad, so I'm afraid if he gets another loser, he'll give up for good.

Gibson's Learn and Master acoustic guitar instructional series is excellent, IMHO. It's a bit expensive if you don't know that someone is pretty serious about learning the instrument. Still haven't gotten to the "Master" stage yet......

Can't hardly go wrong with Stefan Grossman's Vestapol DVD's. The great thing about his stuff is that he gives you the building blocks to keep growing. IT's fingerstyle, but that's a good skill to have. its blues based, but what you learn crosses over to other styles. I've learning a lot of guitar from them.

1 disc set, good std folk rep http://www.guitarvideos.com/products/instructors/stefan-grossman/fingerpicking-country-blues-guitar

3 cds, covers all the major keys http://www.guitarvideos.com/products/instructors/stefan-grossman/country-blues-guitar-3-dvd-set
