Corfu_Guitarguy Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Whats the difference between gibson lp standard and the faded model. I see the color is different and the price, is that because of the color or has it a different sound and construction too? Thank you!
FennRx Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 The faded lacks the gloss top and the pickup covers, but has a much faster neck IMHO. I think the faded LP Std is the best value LP out there...which is prolly why Gibson is discontinuing them (so I hear). I didn't think the fancier finish was worth the extra $600. But that's just me.
OKlunchbox Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I recently purchased a Standard Faded from a shop in San Diego. When I did I actually had the privilege of speaking with the shop owner and the Gibson rep the he had in the store that day and he assured me that the only differences were the finish, only 2 coats of nitro lacquer instead of the 8 or so on the regular, and the pickup covers. I personally love the Faded finish, and I'm adding the covers right now. I will say that if you end up in my boat and add the covers for the aesthetic that you actually need 2 neck position covers. I found this out the hard way, but when I called Gibson they informed me that the burstbuckers on the faded's use a vintage spacing where the strings don't narrow any between the bridge and neck pickup. Well there you go, from Gibson to me to you.
Corfu_Guitarguy Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 Thank you both but I if its just the finish then thers no sound difference and if u add the pick-up cover its the same thing, so it isnt worth it to pay 500 euros for the finish........ I dont like the pick-up colors so I will get some covers but how do I install them...? Thank you!
Corfu_Guitarguy Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 Oh and is the faded really of the market?
OKlunchbox Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I'm getting my replacement cover in the mail today. Really they just slide right on, but from what I've read it's recommended to place a small bead of solder to connect the cover to the back of the pickup for grounding purposes. I'm not the greatest with a soldering iron so I'm going to plug it in and see if I can do with out, or if I get some crazy feed back. I'll let you know what happens.
Trouble n Hand Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Oh and is the faded really of the market? Well there not listing them on the web site anymore?
harmonicchaos Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 they also don't list the les paul vintage mahogany and thats been around for a while (couple years i hear). they don't list the hummingbird artist which i think is a prolonged model. there's prolly more unlisted but those are two that i know of. i could be wrong but i don't think that just because it's not on the website, it's discontinued. it may become a gc/mf exclusive. even if it's discontinued it'll prolly come back later. it happens to models all the time. they also supposedly discontinued the firebirds but i would bet money on them returning in the future. just my input.
Gibson CS Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Maybe you have to get one now before the supplies dwindle. Once theyre gone, they are gone!
