flatbaroque
Whatever the merits of this one, give me credit for a song with five guitar manufacturers, existential philosophy and ponies in the one song ... had some fun with the lyrics , hope you like the in-jokes You can play the Bourgeois blues From here to Santa Cruz Leave a trail of greenbacks in your wake But don’t you shilly shally when you ride through Nightmare Alley there’s grifters there can play you off a break and sometimes in the end you know it just depends on the pony you choose to ride Sister Martin had a voice, It was clear and it was choice, It rang out strong where grass was blue Like Little Joan upon the pyre Her Appaloosa caught on fire Now she’s singing backup to Gabriel’s horn and sometimes in the end you know it just depends on the pony you choose to ride Young Taylor cut a dash, He was charmed and never brash They loved to hear him preach Throughout the land But his Palomino froze Enchanted by a desert rose Taylor wrote this last sermon in the sand sometimes in the end you know it just depends on the pony you choose to ride Jimmy Gibson came alive In the flood of ’45 when the levee broke Across the handcarved plain Don’t think that man a fool Cause he rode a swayback mule There was something deep behind those sunburst eyes he told me to my face, son, don’t you ever double brace too much caution sucks the life out of a man and sometimes in the end you know it just depends on the pony you choose to ride

Del Nilppeznaf
This is class stuff Mr FB I mean really good...song writing as a true art..bit of fun..lot of real skill... many years learned musical roots...it aint easy to knock out a song like this my friend..... you are indeed very talented. i'd love to hear the bridge..as i thought it was lacking something.. a key change or something.. I can tell you have just finished it? if I;m correct ? as you lose a little towards the end one of my favs from you so far..extremely high song writing ... thanks oh btw the pause in the chorus just befor you hit with you know it just depends on the pony ........... you choose to ride is just class
flatbaroque
Cheers Del.Yea just finished this.It has been hanging around a while with only lyrics for the chorus.I wanted to finish something this week. Most of the lyrics were written in my head on the train to work this week.I'd get to work and email whatever couplets I'd thought of back home.So on Friday night I put all those emails together and cooked up the song as a whole. The bridge worked well as a melody change but the lyrics were a bit weak...so that's another reason I didn't include it.Needs a bit of work. Thanks for the encouragement old son! edit here...I also remembered a funny thing. When thinking the lyrics on the train Bob Dylan's "John Brown' kept coming into my head...not cause of the melody but the rhythm of the words followed the same pattern "when John Brown went off to war to fight on a foreign shore"....... "you can play the bourgeoise blues from here to Santa Cruz"
EuroAussie
A class performance there FB. Great melody, tasty progression and chord choice and all the tantalising little bits in between. Youre getting really good at this man, keep em comin' !
ParlourMan
Mr FB, that there is a Winner! - Great stuff, loved it, would have liked to hear the bridge too... Loved the little lick at the end of the sections that's reminiscent of the lick from Feelin' Good. Definitely my favourite so far. Heartfelt and genuine applause. Mojorule
Great work Flatters. Laughed hard at the bit about double bracing. Funny since when you put the in-jokes to one side, it's quite a melancholic tune.
Del Nilppeznaf
Great work Flatters. Laughed hard at the bit about double bracing. Funny since when you put the in-jokes to one side, it's quite a melancholic tune. I think if you forget about the guitar in jokes..it's just a beaut of a song. Easily stands alone without the in jokes... if you didn't know befor hand about guitars and the references...well you could sit and muse away the time wondering what its all about.. Tiny
Love it! I agree with the others -- this song is cool and interesting even without the bonus giggles from the guitar references. Man, very well done.
