The J45s I have encountered that had the most beautiful trebles were all from the 1950s. I remember one in particular that played like a dream and sounded amazing, also from 1954, yet a whole bunch of wood was scalloped out of the fingerboard from bending and long left hand finger nails. It looked like a beater and purred like a Ferrari.

Good choice, and I hope you enjoy it. I hope you will still get an AJ after sending the other one back. I really love mine, and I think it would be a nice addition to your collection of bursts.

Jannus, congratulations!!!

That is going to be an incredible, incredible guitar. I have people speak of the 50s J45s as if they are hallowed objects.

I am very happy for you indeed! Any idea what you're going to move on as a result of the new member of the flock?

thanks for the kind words and encouragement everyone. i appreciate it. i will post pics upon it's arrival. it was a big purchase to have made without playing it but i have a sense that i will not be disappointed. it comes from the personal collection of a luthier in the north west (oregon) by the name of robert steinegger. he was affiliated with the 12th fret up there and evidently made some very well thought of guitars for the everly bros. his take on the j185, i believe, that was their signature model. the man had stroke recently and is moving some of his collection to assist with medical bills. a sad circumstance but the sale of this instrument will help him. my understanding is that he's made some modifications to the bracing that have improved the tone and that the playability of the guitar is superb. we shall see.

jinder_i'm not sure yet what i might be parting with. i will give a heads up when i figure it out.

cheers,

rob

Jannusguy' date=' in addition to pictures I'd love to hear your thoughtful comparison of the tones you get from this beautiful family of jumbos. Congratulations on the addition.

i'll do my best. i'm nowhere near as articulate as Jkinnama or Ballcorner (among several others here) when it comes to this but i'll give it the old college try. BTW, this one came up immediately after having lost the one i mentioned to you off line. serendipity, no? i'll weigh in when i get it and have gotten familiar with it.

cheers,

rob

Lovely guitar. The J-45 is my absolute favorite make of guitar. It's great sounding and great looking. To me it is the classic guitar shape - when I think of a guitar, I think of a J-45. And yours has got some great mojo - it's nice to think about all the musicians who must have enjoyed playing it in the past.

I have a 1950 with a bunch of holes drilled in it. Sounds beautiful and I love it.
