GottaBeGibson Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Is the P-90H just a P-100 with a carbon fiber look cover or is it a completely new design inside? Will it be made part of the replacement pickup line or is it exclusive to the Dark Fire?
nolongermike@gibson Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Its a special hum-canceling P90 that is truly a P-90 sound, not like the P100. I don't know if there are plans to make it for sale by itself right now. The P90H would likely not be sold in the special carbon fiber style cover if it is, that's for the Dark Fire model.
GottaBeGibson Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Thanks Mike. How does the P-90H compare to the H-90 on the Billie Joe Armstrong LP Jr.? Count me as one who'd buy a hum-free "P-90" that still sounds like a P-90! Wouldn't even want the carbon fiber cover, simple black would be great - my SG Classic is crying out for a pair.
nolongermike@gibson Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 The pickup sounds awesome! I can't compare, I haven't played the Billie Joe model, but I've played Dark Fire and it sounds great on each pickup.
elantric Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 >Its a special hum-canceling P90  Really?  I found it to have all the hum of my 1961 P90 SG Special - i say the P90H is either a great sounding single coil PU or a noisy humbucker.   http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/DarkFire/Sound.aspx    "Gibson’s New P-90H Pickup  The new P-90H black soapbar pickup is another example of Gibson's drive to stay one step ahead. This new pickup offers all of the soulful, classic tone of Gibson’s legendary P-90 singlecoil pickup, but with none of the 60-cycle hum that usually plagues traditional singlecoil pickups. Gibson’s pioneering engineers were then able to secure all of the P-90’s vintage sonic characteristics, and deliver the same high output and sweet treble response that still makes the P-90 one of the most desirable pickups in the world."
wardmk1976 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I dont think this is truly a noiseless p90 no matter what setting I have in chameleon mode i get a slight 60 cyc hum does any one else seem to notice this problem
GottaBeGibson Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 Well that's disappointing news.
FourMiles Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Any chance the Dark Fire technology will come in an Epiphone?
Eric1811 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Using P-90H on my DF produces a great tone, but is nearly unusable due to the hum. It's so bad, I can't even use pickup for gigging or recording. If this is the way all the DFs P-90H pickups sound, then there has been little or no improvement from the original P-90. I'm hoping that this unique to my DF and can be fixed. Has anyone else had this problem??
dkleinjans Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Mine doesn't have the problem. The P-90H sounds great! There's a slight hum, but not much. My LP Custom R7 was much worse, and it doesn't have single coils.
Giraku Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Mine also doesn't have hum, at least a noticeable one. I tried my DF through Mesa Express 5:25, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and Fender G-Dec 30 and heard no noticeable hum. But I know more than a couple of DF owners are complaining about the noise. Maybe we should have a poll to see the proportion...
