The Protomen

They're a local band made good. I believe they produce their own recordings.

The cds are a rock opera based on the Mega Man video game, and while that does seem like a foolproof method for creating cheese, it turns out to be a very good tale and the music is excellent, if a bit derivative at times. Overall, though, I've been fairly smitten for the last week or so... well, since my son brought them to my attention. From the lead singer:

"We basically gathered up all of our good friends from the local rock bands of Murfreesboro, tied ourselves together, and tried to walk. And somehow it worked. At the time, we noticed a void in rock and roll. A hole that could only really be filled with grown men and women painting up like robots and playing some fierce and furious rock music based on a 1980s video game. We were fairly certain no one else was going to fill that hole. But, by god, it's filled now. You can thank us later."

If you decide to give them a listen, make sure you read the lyrics! If all you hear is the music, it's like reading just the dialogue of the story.

Kind of like Star Wars, the chronological order of the story is Act II, then Act I. Act I sounds like it was produced in somone's basement, or so I thought. Upon reading the story and listening to Both cds in the order that the story flows, I've decided there is a reason Act I sounds like it does... which makes this work pretty freaking awesome on the whole.

Anyway, I've been enjoying this work a lot and thought I'd share :)

Happy Saturday!
