Does this DG-335 look legit?

Looks good. How much does the seller want for this beast?............jim at Tinker AFB Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Around $5500 which seems to be the going rate the the Pelham Blue ones (on ebay at least, when they rarely show up...). The black ones are a bit more common and go for less. Presumably because DG uses the blue one more often.

PS this is a pic I took of him using the guitar this was modeled after, at the recent concert in Central Park...

Received the guitar today. Things just got a little fishier. In the ebay auction the pics were of Ser #44. The guitar received is Ser # 007. No COA card was included and it was shipped in a generic 335 case (not the DG-335 case pictured in the auction). Glad I paid with my AmEx...

FYI: Our records show that DG-007 had an ebony finish.

I received the guitar and it is apparently a fake. The seller has not responded. Thankfully I paid with AMEX so they are investigating. eBay has also escalated to their upper Fraud team and is in touch with law enforcement. I still have the guitar because the seller hasn't responded in sending a return shipping label. It looks like a good fake, but missing the DG case and Cert of Authenticity that was pictured in the auction. Also of course different serial # than was posted in the auction which was a main tipoff.

Doing a bit more research I found this same seller sold the same guitar back in June, but this time claimed the case and COA were "stolen" and that it was setup but "Luthier" -- which is of course the maker of the fake DG-335s. Here's the link to the proof: http://www.greatestcollectibles.com/gibson-usa-dg-335-pelham-blue-dave-grohl/

So basically I have the fake guitar here, AMEX has temporarily refunded my $ while they investigate, but I can't imagine they won't side with me since I was sent a fake guitar (so far the seller hasn't responded to AMEX either).

what's the latest on this. I'm interested to hear the outcome.

Still waiting to hear from AMEX about what to do. The seller has never responded to me. I bought it on ebay bought paid directly with AMEX (not paypal). eBay says since I opened a dispute with my CC, they won't touch the transaction (but they did delete the listing from their records completely -- luckily I saved a copy).

AMEX says they have to give the seller (a CC merchant apparently) a number of months to resolve it, even though they haven't responded. I guess until January. In the meantime they have credited me the full purchase price. I still have the guitar here, so I have no idea what happens in January -- id the buyer takes the guitar back, or they fled the country, and I end up with a free (tho fake) guitar.

Just glad I paid with AMEX. Surprised this person would accept AMEX! They did offer wire transfer -- thank g*d I didn't pay with a wire! (I never would...)

Just wanted to drop a line in here to say this posting was on eBay yet again yesterday. This mysterious eBayer is making a living out of selling counterfeit/fake guitars. I did report the posting to eBay.

Was AMEX ever able to completely sort this out for you? Just curious.

AMEX refunded me in full. The seller never responded to them. So I still have the guitar, as they won't respond to me. AMEX said to hold on to it for a year, and then it's mine to do with as I wish.

I guess these sellers must have enough suckers that either wire the money (and are screwed) or never know they are fakes, that when someone finds out they are fakes, they just write it off as a loss and forget about it (rather than even bothering to take the guitar back).

So, as of now, I do have a free DG335 knockoff, at least (with a real Gibson 335 case (but not a DG335 case).

It seems that there are a ton people getting hosed on buying fake DG-335s. There are so many people that want these guitars, many bad apples are having a field day taking advantage of the situation. Is there any hope that gibson will be releasing this guitar again in an effort to support and supply their beloved fans and community? Surely Gibson hates seeing so many people taken advantage of? I personally would like to purchase one, but they are nowhere to be found and even if I found one, I would be taking a huge risk.
