Rocky4
Notice the neck pick up is missing. Apparently Phil feels it interferes with the vibration of the strings and this is why a Special sounds different than a Jr. Food for thought..... Ryan H
Notice the neck pick up is missing. Apparently Phil feels it interferes with the vibration of the strings and this is why a Special sounds different than a Jr. Food for thought..... Yup, he rips out the neck pickups in most of his guitars, with the exception of the vintage ones. He even asked for Yamaha to leave the empty neck pickup rout in his Signature SG2000 or whatever it is, because he says that the cavity contributes to the tone as well. Which I agree would change the resonant characteristics slightly I suppose... Also, George Lynch plays all his solos in a part of a Desert that he Bought. He says he did it for the natural reverb. Apparently pedals and tanks aren't good enough for Mr. Lynch. Just random trivia I learned today. -Ryan

heymisterk
I have always watched and loved Phil X. What I like most about him is that - despite the guitars he hawks - he really proves that it's about the player, not how much the guitar costs. I know for many years, his guitar was the LTD with a simple P-94 in it: a combination any kid with an after school job could buy used. That's rock and roll, and it's a nice reminder to me when I start seeing the outrageous prices Gibson charges for its vast issues of reissues, customs, VOSs, etc.

His energy can brighten anyone's day up.
