ParlourMan
Following on from the "There's no more Gibson, so what do you play?" thread, I thought I'd pose one that may even have a modicum of market research value, depending on how it goes of course.... So, which is your least preferred Montana built model and why? For me it a general response, the ones with a cutaway, I just can't be dealing with a cutaway. If pushed to be more specific, I'd say The songwriter with the cutaway, a mix of of the modern appointments and the cutaway is a double strike for me aesthetics wise. (sorry songwriter owners). Over to you.....
blindboygrunt
trust you PM to come up with a thread thats likely to cause a row .... but i'm bored at work so i'll play, i'll agree with the aesthetics of a cutaway , not so fussed , but the hendrixs out there need them i guess , if i'm past the fifth fret its cos i'm capoed . i genuinely like all the guitars in their own way but,, the songwriter looks a little too modern for me , and the only thing that i really can't warm to is the bridge on the dove guitars , just irks me , they sound great i'll admit , but doesnt tickle my fancy looks wise . too much mother of pearl and nashville bling puts me off too . ParlourMan
trust you PM to come up with a thread thats likely to cause a row Who, me? Surely not..... ;) kidding aside hopefully not... Secondary question, if you seen your favourite artist using a model that would be in your least preferred list would that be enough to make you re-evaluate, enough to even start liking it perhaps? and the only thing that i really can't warm to is the bridge on the dove guitars. Yeah, I would go along with that too.... as you say, sounds great on clips, but a few of the appointments I could live without.
blindboygrunt
the older i get i realise more that even if i play neil youngs d28 i'm not gonna sound like him .... i'll just sound like me on a d28 ... but , i have little doubt that the type of music we listen to and have admiration for the particular artist moulds our taste in guitars . Del Nilppeznaf
Have to agree on the Doves bridge.. also not a fan of too much 'bling' on any guitar ( DanvilleRob may have something to say on that ) The Sparrow and it's guard gets a vote from me too. But if I was to have any cutaway acoustic..although not a big fan myself also.. a CF100 would be fine.
EuroAussie
Probably the smaller maple 165 and 185 models. To me just lacking tonal depth.
Guest J-Doug
Yes the Songwriters leave me cold.
ksdaddy
I had a 2007 CJ165R. Didn't like it at all. Stunning to look at and 1000% Gibson quality but no tone at all.
Motherofpearl
Hummingbird koa with red spruce top. Maybe it's the koa just lacked that gibson woody tone and thump. Left me wanting more.
onewilyfool
I have to agree with P.M., Songwriter cut-aways leave me cold AND that little mustache bridge is a design flop for me. I've never played a Robert Johnson that sounded good to me. I've probably played 10 and just didn't like the tone.......I like most Gibson's I play however.... Hairy Dave
I've only played four models (J45, AJ, Hummingbird and SJ200), but of the four I suppose I didn't like the J200 as much. The tone was phenomenal but the size put me off somewhat - just not as comfortable for me. I've never played a songwriter, and cutaway wouldn't be my first choice either, so I've never really wanted one. I don't like the Pro models of the Hummingbird etc either. I suppose I prefer the models with a bit of history behind them too.
jackcooper
I've never played a J-200 that I'd want to own. But I'm sure one will surface eventually.

Motherofpearl
Jack cooper here's my sj lol Isn't that gross? I'm not much of a cutaway guy either. I think the those starburst L series and all that in the 90s was horrendous
