BobB
The first and fifth digits in the serial number, 031070600, indicate the year it was built (2007). The second, third and forth digits indicate it was stamped with that number on the 310th day of 2007.
BigKahune
. Gibson has finally updated their website with the information you need to decode nine digit serial numbers, but they haven't updated the formula: YDDDYRRR. Here's the info - Gibson USA (Nashville) went to a 9 digit serial number in July 2005 to accomadate their increased production. The sixth number is now a batch number- the batch number starts at 0 at the beginning of the day, and when 699 is reached, the batch number changes to 1. The first 5 numbers and the last 3 numbers still represent the the same info. The only difference is the addition of the batch indicator - YDDDYBRRR Memphis and Bozeman are still using 8 digits - YDDDYRRR So, for the most part, if it's an 8 digit number the forumla is - YDDDYRRR; if it's 9 digit number the formula is YDDDYBRRR .
