General Setup Information

Does anyone have the recommended numbers for a Les Paul setup?

-- Neck relief

-- String height

-- Pickup height

Fender publishes very complete setup guides on their web site but I'm coming up empty-handed for anything Gibson-related. I'd like to at least have a baseline to work from.

Thanks!

ZB You would think it would be general knowledge but everytime I ask the same question I get the same answer----Personal taste. What the

hell does that mean, I'am not a recording artist but I also would like some general guidelines.

I'll be keeping an eye on this post. Thanks for the question

Good Luck Mark.... I just know if I have a screwdriver in my hand around my guitar nothing good will happen!

What you should do is ask for for factory settings...then adjust everything to your liking. This way, if you screw something up you can always revert back to the factory setting. Sorry, I don't know what they are.

That's what I'm trying to find, Tim.

Gibson doesn't seem to publish any. I guess I'll have to email customer service. When I get a reply I'll be sure to post the information here.

Hi, Zaphod B!

Clearly, there is no one set baseline for LPs, since they vary slightly from year to year and model to model.

Having said that, allow me to quote from Dan Erlewine's fine book, "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great!"

The following specs are for a 1959 Les Paul with Humbuckers:

Relief: Dead-straight neck-maybe .002" (.05mm) of relief at the 7th fret.

String Height: At the 12th fret, 1/8" (3.2mm) at the Low E string, 3/32" (2.4mm) at the High E string

Pickup Height: 1/16" (1.6mm) on the High E AND Low E strings for the neck humbucker

3/32" (2.4mm) on the High E AND Low E strings for the bridge pickup

Hope this helps! <g>

Thanks, Cat Daddy!

I think I would be using a bit more neck relief but all the other numbers look reasonable.
