Striking Behind the Nut?

Recommended Posts

I was playing my SG and strummed behind the nut pretty hard to get that dissonant harmonics sound out of it. Problem is that it now feels like the high E string was plucked out of place... I tried it again on my Les Paul and a similar effect happened. Can strumming behind the nut throw off the action adjustment? Has any of you experienced a similar issue? I assume that changing strings would remedy what I'm feeling... maybe it's all in my head. The difference is fairly slim and it doesn't feel my playing was hindered by it. It just felt a tiny bit different. I've had no problems doing this with Strats and the like... but I'm aware those don't have an angled headstock and they're 6-in-line. Thanks in advance for your replies.
