Guitarless in Burma - On Holiday

Recommended Posts

Off to Burma / Myanmar for a couple of weeks on Thursday.I'll be doing a bit of roughish travel so I won't be lugging a guitar.

Will keep a weather eye out for Burmese Tigers, Pythons and the even rarer Gibson Hummingbird.

I'm sure I'll get to play a nylon string yamaha (with at least 5 strings) somewhere.I might even annoy a few people with some country caterwauling song stylings after a few too many local beers.

Don't think I'll have much internet access so don't break any big stories while I'm gone.

If I can get a photo of a gibson acoustic over there I think I will have done good!

It's just opening up again Chris after many years of tourist and economic sanctions.Won't get into the politics of it but basically it's considered ok to go there now and the locals are encouraging tourism again, hoping to engage with the rest of the world and make some democratic and economic progress.

Sweet, sounds like the place to go, Thailand is supper touristy now a days anyway.

I was thinking of going over to Vietnam or Thailand for about a month in January.

please update this blog with photos and stories, I'd be really interested to hear what you think of Burmha :).

Thanks lads! I'll try to keep out of mischief...sometimes I don't try hard enough haha..

I've got a couple of melodies in my head so I'll see how I go on writing lyrics for a full song without a guitar on long travelling days.

If Beethoven could write a symphony when deaf I should be able to manage a cowboy dirge. And yea PM I'd rather face a python than Jimmy Saville haha.

I wonder though about the damage a two weeks vacation without a guitar can do on the playing...I never go more than two days without playing since I'm more seriously into it. Anybody has an idea on how long it takes to go back to normal after a couple weeks break? Just the thought of loosing calooses and agility in my fingers is scary enough for me to keep on pickin'...besides the sheer joy of playing my Bird of course [biggrin]

Time spent away from the guitar can be beneficial, often I'll get pieces that I get frustrated by, can't seem to nail, go away on business or holiday for a few days, week or two, come back and suddenly I can play them.... it needn't be a big deal to haver no guitar possibilities for a bit.

So true ... I have the same experiences. Sometimes you just give em' a rest for a while and you will be surprised what you can do once back.
