Just ordered my Push Pull kit...

Hey guys... Just ordered a JP push pull kit from RS Guitarworks. It's going to do split coil and out of phase so I need to get 4 lead pupps.... The tech I spoke with at RS didn't think the Burst Bucker would be a good choice for the kit but he said the 57 classics would do just fine... The tech told me if I wanted just to split the coils all I need are three conductor pupps but if I want to do out of phase as well I need the 4 conductor... I figure the 4 conductor pupps would be the way to go to get more variety of sounds...

So the question is, can I get 57 classics with 4 lead wiring? I can buy them that way from Gibson or should I look in guitar shops or on line?

you cannot buy them. gibson doesnt make them. a good tech can make them 4 lead, but its a pain in the *** from what i understand.

email SD....they can make anything in 4 lead for you- 59s, Seth Lovers, etc. and i believe that SD offers a special JP pickup that is not advertised on the website, but you can purchase.

i bought PAF clones from a boutique winder for the exact same reason. i ended up selling everything to fund a Historic though =P~

okay i know no one has ever heard of them probably, it's more of a fender thing but the best pickups ever are van zandt pickups. and they have just started making humbuckers, and the make ones with 4 lead wires. you will just have to take my word for it but if you're looking for the classic sound like the 57 classics van zandts are the best there is. i had my dads guitar for a while and it had van zandts and every one who heard it and knew anything about guitar sad they were the best sounding pickups they had ever heard!!!! you should defenatily check them out.

http://www.vanzandtpu.com/

they are made by one of fenders origional pickup making dudes from back in the 60s and he started his own company and makes them the same way they did back then.

Most (not all) after market pick-ups will have 4 conductor wires. I did this wiring with my Les Paul. The Bridge pup is a Dimarzio Dual Sound (basically a super distortion) and the bridge is their Air Classic. Personally I lean towards DiMarzio over Seymour's probably because I've been using their pups longer - the dual sound has been in this LP since the early 80's with no problems. But, SD's are good too.

Dave' date=' which guitar are you going to set up that way? Your new project guitar? That's gonna be a helluva guitar! Saludos a mis primos hay en Espana.[/quote']

Yeah its for the project LP.... Just got some amber bell knobs for it too. Still need the bridge and stop bar along with the studs that go with them as well. I'm gonna go with nickel hardware and white or aged white pupp rings. Since I'm doing the gold leaf top I think the nickel contrast will be nice. All gold would be a bit much.... I can also use the vintage double line double ring tuners I already have... :-)

serious vintage tone. cant speak directly to their HBz but if they are remotely as good as the SC pup i have then its over dude

So you ended up buying a historic with 4 leads? Where did you find that and how much did it run you? I did speak to SD and they make a custom shop Jimmy page pick up with 4 leads, only thing is they wont sell direct to me because I am in Spain, they want me to buy via a local distributor here. If I were in the states I could by the SD JP set for $300.... I'll find out what they will charge me here in Spain. If its a lot more I'll wait for my next trip to Boston....
